Rice Stresses UN Resolution Doesn’t Establish Palestine As A State

Source: Albany Tribune

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice deplored the Thursday vote by the U.N General Assembly to grant Palestine non-member observer State status at the United Nations, saying that the resolution does not establish Palestine as a state.

The resolution on the status of Palestine in the UN was adopted by a vote of 138 in favor to nine against with 41 abstentions by the 193-member Assembly.

“Today’s unfortunate and counterproductive resolution places further obstacles in the path to peace. That is why the United States voted against it,” Rice said.

According to Rice, “Today’s grand pronouncements will soon fade. And the Palestinian people will wake up tomorrow and find that little about their lives has changed, save that the prospects of a durable peace have only receded.”

4. With "diplomats" like Rice, little indeed will change for Palestine. Or, things may get worse.

She's not the person to head the State Department.

See, "Susan Rice Vocally Supported the Iraq War, and Every Mid-East Conflict Since"

8. This is

where I separate with you. You blame Rice and not the U.S. Government, meaning the Executive Branch and especially the U.S. Congress. I do not blame Rice for doing her job at the U.N. and representing the views of the U.S. Government's Foreign Policies. That is who you need to be Blaming. It doesn't matter if it was John Kerry or Hillary Clinton in the position because that would be pushing the same talking points of the entire U.S. Government. So to demonize Susan Rice, is off based. And I will keep defending her where I see fit. I blame her superiors, including the President, who has more authority to change Middle East Policies than she does.

10. She leads and executes the policy. She shares responsibility with her superiors, which

extend only one or two tiers above her. She is also a policy-maker, so the "only carrying out orders" defense is pretty thin at her level.

Of course, I blame the President and Secretary of State, but I blame her for doing this job this way. Nobody put a gun to her head to do it.

7. Susan "Bolton" Rice: I sure as hell hope she doesn't become SoS. She's a lousy UN Rep.

Part of diplomacy is making the boss look good while he's doing wrong.

15. What is the capital of this "recognized state"?

Where are its borders? How come its "lots of friends" have not sent ambassadors to this state? How come the "lots of friends" are not sending it a dime of aid?

16. There is already a capitol for

Palestine, it's called East Jerusalem. And as far as sending ambassadors, what, you expect that to happen in a heartbeat? They have been sending aid, but it has been going through Isreali banks, who have deigned not to send the money on. Probably keeping it to fund the illegal settlements.

19. Ohhh the conspiracy theorists come out.

"Israeli banks" "keeping it to fund the illegal settlements". Wow those Jews are really slick when it comes to money! People are innocently sending money to Palestinians and the Israelis are tricking them and stealing it!

What kook website are you getting that crap from? Your own?

20. It happens to be true that at least US funds to the Palestinians

are channeled through an Israeli bank and it is also true that those funds are more often than not withheld or did you not hear the bitching about the 20 million for the PA that is being held? Conspiracy theorists? Whatever. I guess it's now time for you to throw around an anti-semitism charge in 3....2....1.. Saying that I have a website and am a kook is over the top.

Provide a non-kook link that funds intended for the Palestinians are being withheld by Israeli banks and are being used for settlements. Your charge not mine.

Almost always the same people who arm themselves with strawmen to try and win an argument.
