Extrajudicial killings in Colombia were state policy: ICC

Extrajudicial killings in Colombia were state policy: ICC .
Wednesday, 28 November 2012 09:05 Zach Edling

The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday confirmed that there is sufficient evidence to believe that the killing of thousands of civilians by members of the Colombian armed forces was a state policy.

According to the ICC, "there is reasonable basis to believe that" the so-called "false positives" cases that have surrounded Colombia's military for years "were committed pursuant to a policy adopted at least at the level of certain brigades within the armed forces, constituting the existence of a State or organizational policy."

"A State policy does not need to have been conceived at the highest level of State machinery but may have been adopted by regional or local organs of the State. Hence, a policy adopted by regional or even local organs of the State could satisfy the requirement of a State policy," read the ICC report.

The ICC is currently investigating to determine whether "such a policy...extended to higher levels within the State," a claim Colombia's Ministry of Defense categorically denies.

1. And just two years ago,

...the Right Wing Military Police State government of Colombia was rewarded with a Brand New "Free Trade" Treaty,
no strings attached,
while the emerging transparent populist democracies in Latin America continue to be demonized.

Some things NEVER change.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

2. Honestly, Ma'am: Hasn't Mr. Chavez Allowed Some Food To Spoil Or Something Lately?

Do not let yourself be distracted by trifles like dead peasants and union organizers...please!

4. It IS a failing, by all means! I regret not keeping my eyes on the truly important stuff.

I can only imagine how much food might have spoiled in the time since the last anti-leftist-Latam-leader vigilante posted on the subject.

We must also be mindful of all potential slights of the upper 1% at all times, most clearly in Latin America, where some believe they should be viewed as pure royalty, ordained by god to rule.

3. The same bloodthirsty policy is being enforced in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, etc.

by the US government but, of course, THAT policy is 100% acceptable because it's being done in the name of democracy, freedom, and safety.

5. Absolutely! The U.S. has supported the rule of the oligarchy in Colombia at the total expense

of the people of Colombia, throughout it all, especially since the first wildly popular, widely supported leftist Presidential candidate was publicly assassinated in 1948, and throughout repeated attempts by leftists to run for office, as they've been pounded down and assassinated ever since.

The military has even finally been publicly, formally connected to the assassination of a popular tv journalist and comedian who dared to ridicule the military state in Colombia, Jaime Garzon. Not so unbelievable in Colombia. The US-supported right-wing gets really cranky.
