GOP opposition to diplomat Rice begins to crack

Source: Associated Press

Republican opposition to U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice as the next secretary of state began to crack Sunday as Sen. John McCain said she was "not the problem" in the White House's handling of the Sept. 11 attack in Libya and suggested he could be persuaded to swing behind her possible nomination.

The subtle shift in GOP tenor on Rice could be the result of internal grumblings on how far to take party opposition. Democrats picked up extra seats in the election to maintain their narrow majority, making it that much harder for the remaining 45 Republicans to block the president's nominees.

One senior GOP Senate aide said Sunday that Republicans hadn't united against Rice and were not convinced that she was worth going after.

"There's a definite sense within the caucus that you have to be conservative about where you put your firepower," said the aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly on internal GOP deliberations. "The question is whether the caucus is prepared to filibuster her, and I'm not sure we were."

I guess Republicans started to realize that immediately catering to the make s*&t up so we can impach the President crowd immediately after the election was a bit too obvious. I am sure Darrell Issa and the rest of the Republicans will make something else up and dream up another conspiracy before the end of next year, because that is how Republicans operate.

1. McCain is right

She is NOT the problem, he and others like him are the problem! The republicans in congress are trying to pull the same shit they did in president Obama's first term, but now they are doing after such stupid stuff that are looking like complete idiots, and after making an ass out of himself, McCain is trying to back peddle along with others who were making asses of themselves.

I think the republicans are starting to realize those who voted this year want change, no more of the same old crap we have had for the last 4 years. If republicans don't get their act together, they are going to piss of a whole lot of voters, and I think the are finding that out.

The democrats need to stand their ground and show the republicans they can't be pushed around.
