Jesse Jackson Jr. To Resign.....
Source: Chicago Tribune
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. will announce his resignation from Congress today in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, Jackson's brother Jonathan Jackson said. He spoke to the Chicago Tribune by telephone. The congressman could not be reached for confirmation. Boehner's office also could not be immediately reached. Jackson, 47, a South Side Democrat, has been treated for bipolar depression and has been on a medical leave from Congress since June. He has been under investigation by federal authorities for alleged misuse of campaign dollars and also has faced a congressional ethics probe. Unless the Repubs finance one Republican and five Democrats in a runoff. Split the "D" vote, and sneak an "R" into the House. |

There will be a D primary and a R primary. The two will face each other. It has been at least 20 years since the Rs have funded any candidate in that district so the D winner will walk in.

Hope though his career is resurrected soon.
Shame in 1990's that Jerry Brown and Rev. Jesse Jackson did not make the White House as a team. I am still wondering how Patrick Fitz sleeps at night? He seemed to forget to prosecute someone else who was in his reach. |

I always if I were on a jury would vote in those cases NOT GUILTY. Don't even care if I heard any evidence. My vote would be constant. because of history. and being from NYC, and watching the news year in year out (50 shots here, 41 shots there, etc.) well, If I were a juror in a case like that, I know what my verdict would ring out loud and true. btw Elliott Spitzer and Jim McGreevey resigned. Both were not guilty of anything. Neither was OJ Simpson. |

|
So he was said to have paid for sex. Then arrest everyone in Las Vegas. Are you a prude?
NOT GUILTY btw, are you judge, jury executioner? You cannot say anyone not tried and sentenced by a jury and a judge is guilty of anything and you must admit, OJ Simpson was found innocent of all charges. NOT GUILTY (and I myself would have ruled that too.) I would have ruled against that white haired old cop though if he were on trial, especially if they brought up his past oddities including mishandling the Sharon Tate murders. |

A shame too, because he was really working on some of the corruption problems. Good guy, made a mistake/had an itch, whatever you want to call it, but he admitted it and resigned before the legislature could impeach him for it.

|
a few days or a week or two after, I happened to be walking in NYC on the upper east side and saw him and his wife, walking non-chalantley hand in hand kissing like teenagers.
I am no longer in the conspiracy theory business. However, for the life of me, the two did not look like their was a scandal just a few weeks earlier. It looked more like a threat had passed and their safety now assured or something. (i.e.-like he was set up and forced to admit to something not true, by the Bush PTB.) almost as if the secret that might have been exposed had nothing to do with him at all. He just copped to it to protect someone else. because there were no cameras around. There were no people but regular NYers in the area. NO reporters around. Just 2 lovebirds in love walking in Central Park. and no, I did not imagine it |

Why do you want to give the repukes an issue to beat us up on? Jr. is getting ready to plea to a deal, that would make him guilty, he is probably going to spend some time in prison, so why would you want him to hang on to his seat when he would be removed anyway? It's a simple yes and no question
something you have asked me about 110 times in the 100% of the posts I made in the gunny place that were all anti-NRA and anti-gun. If you or your buds say that someone who is guilty is guilty or quits must be guilty, then I am asking you this Thanksgiving season, when people talk pardons/commutings is Siegleman guilty or not guilty Does Siegleman deserve to be in jail or doesn't he? Our law is our law. And you don't have to be black to be lynched as Mathew Shepard and Sieglman have found out. Same people want Susan Rice to quit too How many lynchings do we need in America? Was Rodney King given what he deserved too? Reminds me of the vigillante in Florida that killed an unarmed innocent kid that might have cured cancer in the coming years, but is now dead. Trayvon Martin was lynched. |

you can't have it both ways I support someone unconditionally. Forever. My love is not fly by night. Jackson and his family. Rev. Jackson after all was on the terrace with Dr. King that fateful day in Memphis. This is no crime at all. But then Siegelman is in jail for years and years. I am sure his condition will be taken into account at sentencing.
You can't give people a pass for this type of thing just because of their race, but mental illness is very real and may in his case be a strongly contributing cause. I don't know the particulars. One can have sympathy, but one cannot say that this sort of thing is acceptable. Let's just quote the gentleman himself: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-34222_162-57553250-10391739/rep-jesse-jackson-jr-resigns/ "I am aware of the ongoing federal investigation into my activities and I am doing my best to address the situation responsibly, cooperate with the investigators, and accept responsibility for my mistakes, for they are my mistakes and mine alone," Jackson wrote. |

and I don't hold it against Rev. Sharpton. If a man doesn't back a woman who cries rape, nobody would be able to protect women ever.
(or do you also back Akin? One is the same as the other. Either rape is rape or it isn't). It is very unhealthy to hold such long term grudges over things they aren't privy to anyhow. It was dumb ass grudges that caused people to toss LBJ in the river and allow Nixon/Bush/Reagan to enter the presidency over a little wedge issue that in the scheme of things mattered little to all the social issues in America's history. The long ball is more important than any specific item. (Same as a drowning man being blamed for a drowning woman that would not have been saved anyhow. All people wanted was for Teddy to drown himself. ) Keeping ones eye on the prize is far more meaningful than "doing the Dukakis". and yet some back the cold blooded killing of Mr. Trayvon Martin, who died solely because he was black in a state where racism is alive and daily shown to be. |

We must always back and believe someone who says they were raped Either that, or one would side with Akin. there is no other answer when someone says they were raped. rape is rape. If a woman says they were raped, I for one believe them. Any civilized man or woman would. Because once you say you don't believe it, then no one would believe any woman who says they were raped. again, you keep bringing up these things then you say the thread is not about that. 58. If you suffered from bi-polar disorder, you might not be so flip...
|
I used to work with people who suffered from bi-polar disorder (formerly known as manic-depression.) It is very common for people who suffer from this disorder to go on crazy spending sprees, or spend lots of money that they don't have, while in the manic phase of their illness. I had one guy who was a stable family man and went to prison for writing bad checks while on bizarre shopping sprees. Buying stuff that he gave to others, often strangers.
It is also a very hard to properly medicate. Lithium works for many, but the side effects make it difficult for many to take, and the dosage needs to me monitored closely because the sufferer's brain chemistry can change drastically. The other really sad side effect is that once a person becomes stable, they decide that they don't need to continue taking their meds. Then they relapse, and the whole process starts over. Maybe he is just another crooked politician, maybe not. But I don't see the need for you to behave like a republican about it. That is a mental illness also, ya know. |
