Hostess, bakers union agree to mediation: report

Twinkie-maker Hostess Brands and its striking bakers union have agreed to mediation to settle their contract dispute, a move that should allow the company to avert liquidation, according to CNBC's Twitter feed Monday afternoon.

Last Friday, bankrupt Hostess said it was being forced into liquidation by the strike, which had stopped most production. About 5,000 of Hostess's 18,000 workers belong to the bakers union. In addition to Twinkies, Hostess markets such iconic brands as Wonder Bread, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs. Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January.

1. Posted same story from different source earlier:

So more likely they won't liquidate, but become sufficiently attractive to be sold, either entirely or in parts, to others.

2. So, this last Hostess Cupcake I'm about to eat might NOT be my last??

I haven't eaten one in years, but someone brought them to work, today, and we all did a walk down Hostess Cakes memory lane. I need some serious chocolate comfort food, tonight, and this cupcake might be just the thing.

10. Triple salaries and humungous bonuses don't help a struggling company.

Management at Hostess was composed of vultures of the Rmoney type.

What a bunch of creeps.

6. Yep. Windfall for Twinkies.

Folks who had never had one just HAD to get one since they would be no longer.
And 'some' may have actually LIKED them.

8. So it WAS all a ploy. They just wanted to scare the bakers into loosening up.
