Deadline passes in Allen West-Patrick Murphy recount; Murphy presumed winner

Election officials missed a deadline Sunday to report results of a two-day recount in GOP Rep. Allen West's race to remain in Congress, apparently sealing unofficial results giving the win to Democrat Patrick Murphy.

St. Lucie County did not meet a noon cutoff to finish processing 37,379 ballots cast early in the District 18 congressional election. Under Florida law, previously submitted results favoring Murphy will be certified unless an emergency exemption is granted by the state.

"They did this recount because they weren't confident in the outcome," said West campaign manager Tim Edson. "Now, because they missed the deadline, we're not going to know whether they were right in their concern or not."

Edson said the incumbent's campaign was looking at what could be done to possibly extend the deadline and suggested the fight was not yet over.

First of all he is not inclined to govern and needs to step back on his own record. He can complain about the votes not being counted but I think perhaps they do know the results and just gave in to his tantrum but missed the deadline on purpose. He has lost, please someone tell him he lost and he can stay at home and rant there. Save the nation, we don't like you.

were not confident in the outcome. What a loud of BS. They placated him because his whiney ass complained so much because he lost. They were not wanting to do a recount as they were happy with the results as they stood. West complained and they placated him even though they didn't have to. The margin was wider than a recount required. I'm so tired of these republican sociopaths changing the story from what it truly is.
