Drug Test Rick Perry, Says Texas Democrat

Source: Huffington Post

"Texas taxpayers will not subsidize or tolerate illegal drug abuse," he said.

Lawmakers in more than 30 states have proposed drug testing for welfare benefits in recent years, but only Florida has followed through with blanket testing of welfare applicants. A federal court suspended the effort, citing the U.S. Constitution's protections against unreasonable searches by the government, but not before several months of testing proved the scheme a remarkable failure. The program cost the state more than it saved, and people applying for TANF benefits turned out to be less likely to use drugs than the general population.

The likelihood of a constitutional challenge hasn't stopped Perry or other lawmakers from pushing forward with testing requirements. Democrats in several states have responded with bills to drug test lawmakers and governors. After all, Martinez Fischer explained, the governor lives on public funds.

"He’s the largest recipient of government subsidies in the state of Texas," Martinez Fischer said of Perry. "His subsidy for his mansion is no different from someone else’s Section 8 voucher."

As long as so-called drug testing includes marijuana, I am against it. I will, however, make an exception for this douche-bag (Perry).

1. Hell, lots of the RepubliBaggers need drug tests

...what with their condemnation of all things American, and their soul-ugly War on Women, War on Hispanics, War on Blacks, War on Native Americans, War on Science, and War on the Planet Earth which we all need for air, water, and food.

They gotta be doped up on something pretty nasty and deranging.

5. Logic fail on your part.

That legislator is using their own line of reasoning against the very Republicans who espouse the drug testing to begin with.

The legislator is exposing their hypocrisy on this matter, "If they don't have anything to hide, why are they against it?".

3. If you drug test some, you should drug test all. And Perry is a chronic back pain patient.

So you know his urine is going to be loaded with goodies, and he will have to divulge his private medical condition to strangers in order to justify the results.

The threat of doing the same to legislators is probably the best way to stop this insanity.

4. he's the largest recipient of Texas gov't subsidies, so why not if others would have to?

Florida did this, and it was a disastrous waste of taxpayer money! Very few were on drugs, and the state had to pay for all those tests for those who weren't on drugs.

12. Florida results: less than 2% of those tested showed drugs in system.

Not worth spending the money to pursue the testing.
