Gaza conflict: Militant rocket targets Jerusalem

Source: BBC

Hamas militants have launched a rocket on Jerusalem - the first time the holy city has been targeted in decades - and the first such attack from Gaza.

Militants said they wanted to hit the Israeli parliament, but the missile landed outside the city - and there were no casualties.

The upsurge follows Israel's killing of Hamas's military chief on Wednesday and its continued air strikes on Gaza.

Egypt's leader has vowed to back Gaza in the face of "blatant aggression".

1. Egypt will back Gaza how?

I highly doubt with military power, the Egyptian military is no match for the Israeli military, so it would probably be just statements of support.

2. It'll only be talk

Not one Arab nation will come to the defense of Gaza with anything but talk. People are about to find out how little the Palestinians mean to their "brothers". It's never been anything but a talking point to them.

5. I sincerely hope that this whole tragedy can be avoided

I hate to see people die, both sides really need to sit down and work out a comprehensive peace treaty that will benefit both, economically and secutity wise. However, I'm not holding my breath waiting for it.
My wife has family in Tel Aviv and she is frantic as hell right now.

3. IRAN!!!!!!!!

Wonder how much Iran has in on this Jerusalem attack. Jerusalem is the site of great contention and means so much to the Christian, Arab & Jewish Religions so why would Hamas send a missile there.

Iranians are Persian.

Makes you really wonder.

4. I hope you're joking.

Or do you actually think that "Arab" is a religion?

Only about half of Iranians are ethnically Persian, but the vast majority are Muslim.

9. Not a good sign but this strike may have been in retaliation for this one

Israel bombs Interior Ministry building in Gaza City

Israel bombed the civil affairs department of the Ministry of Interior in Gaza City early Friday morning after a night of heavy raids across the Gaza Strip.

Emergency crews extinguished a huge blaze at the ministry in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood as ambulances transferred wounded Palestinians from residential buildings in the area.

Ministry officials reassured citizens that more than 90 percent of personal files and papers were saved electronically and could still be accessed. The building contained 70 years of records of the Palestinian civil registry, the ministry said.

Israeli shelling of security and civil headquarters will not discourage the government from working, the ministry added.
