Chrysler to spend $238 million, add 1,250 jobs in Michigan

Thu Nov 15, 2012 12:00pm EST

(Reuters) - Chrysler Group LLC, the U.S. automaker majority owned by Fiat SpA, said on Thursday it will invest $238 million to boost engine and truck production in Michigan and add up to 1,250 jobs to meet new demand.

The company is spending $198 million to make its Pentastar V6 engine at the Mack I Engine Plant, which currently builds a larger engine for the Ram 1500 truck. Production will begin in early 2014 and Chrysler may add up to 250 jobs there, subject to market conditions.

The automaker is spending $40 million to install a flexible production line at its Trenton North plant, which can build both the V-6 engine and the Tigershark four-cylinder engine.

2 weeks ago: Oh now, they're sending your jobs overseas! Vote for me instead!

Today: The same crowd is probably growling and grousing about how this will increase the viability of a group they absolutely love to hate: unionized blue collar manufacturing workers.

The cons official meme will be something along the lines now about how unions are holding a business hostage and making them less competitive blah blah blah.

Unionized jobs, probably good pay and benefits. In the USA. Doesn't sound like anyone's moving to China just yet. And it soumds like maybe the auto bailout worked.
If this sounds like rubbing salt in the wounds, good. It is.

After years of GM cars and being happy, we bought a Town & Country and a Sebring. These cars were manufactured 3 years apart and we have had MANY of the exact same failures at identical mileages (thermastat, transmission, etc.). I would never buy one of these pieces of shit again. Back to GM with our next cars.

$238 million to boost production and 1,250 new jobs - none of them minimum wage? That bastard!!! This is all his fault.

Can't wait to send this one to my Reich-wing friends.

So adding 1 million jobs would require $190 billion. 10 million jobs would require $1.9 trillion.
