Murray Energy sank $100K into American Crossroads before layoffs

Source: Politico

By ERICA MARTINSON

FEC records show coal company Murray Energy Corp. gave $100,000 to American Crossroads in September, just weeks before sacking dozens of employees as part of its plan to go into “survival mode.”

The Ohio-based company announced last week it would lay off 163 employees, citing the results of the general election and a regulatory onslaught to come.

Coal executive Robert E. Murray told employees that because Obama had won a second term, “we cannot bleed cash waiting for our competitors to be eliminated,” according to a memo to employees. “We must totally go into survival mode and generate all the cash that we can from whatever we still have left that can help us.”

In a ‘prayer’ composed by Murray, the coal executive asked for forgiveness “for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build,” and for “guidance in this drastic time with the drastic decisions that will be made to have any hope of our survival as an American business enterprise.”

3. Omaha Steve

Omaha Steve

They can spend 100.000 dollar on a election, but not get people employed on their mines.... 100.000 US dollar is a lot of money, that true - but it is just a dip into the water from what they earn from the coal mines...

Me things this is just a way to grandstand - becouse "their side" lost the election - and therefore their anger have to get out over someone.. And as other have explained before, the times before christmas tend to be lean on everyone, why fire them now?.. Right before bonuses and so one is due... (If they at all is getting bonuses then)

5. The 163 laid off employees of Mr. Murray are going to be

better off in the long run...they will still be around to work somewhere! Instead of being killed before their time, by one of Mr. Murray's "Mountain Bumps" inside of one of his unregulated "American business enterprises."

7. Can creditors go after American Crossroads to get their money back?

What if SuperPacs are just new off shore accounts for the rich to hide their money?
