For U.S. Chamber of Commerce, election was a money-loser
Source: Washington Post
The day after an election in which the U.S. Chamber of Commerce spent millions of dollarsbacking losing Republican candidates, executives began the brutal process of assessing what went wrong at the nation’s leading business organization. The Chamber spent nearly $24 million to defeat several high-profile Democratic Senate candidates, including Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio, former governor Timothy M. Kaine in Virginia and Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. But out of 15 Senate races where the business organization put down money, only two went the Chamber’s way. The results were not much better in the House, where the Chamber poured more than $7 million into 22 races, according to the CRP. The Chamber’s candidates picked up only four wins. 6. The US Chamber has no clue about business...
|
I'm beginning to realize that all they are is a big checkbook for Karl Rove and his pals. Some fat cats at the top are making the decisions, and wasting a lot of money.
If they were true business people, they'd look at the FACTS, and see that this President, like the last Democratic president, is GREAT for business. If they were truly interesting in helping America's businesses, they would focus on the assault on the middle class and the small businesses, since the 1980s. Until someone addresses the fact that the top 1% is paying a fraction of the taxes they paid under Reagan, and as a result, the American spender (who drives the economy) will continue to decline. Add to that the jobs being shipped overseas, and Americans will never recover (well, the 99% of them, anyway.) I cancelled my Chamber memberships, as I found even on the local level, to be ignorant and republican, and anti-small business. It's why I gave up real estate, too. |

11. I joined my local chamber thinking it was nothing more than a business networking group.
|
And for the monthly breakfasts.
Unfortunately, soon thereafter I kept on recieving persistant propoganda emails from the local president. I choose not to renew my membership. Sort of a shame, because the breakfasts were delicious. |

13. No. It can't be. They are a professional business organization and know how to manage money.
|
I mean, that what they do.
There's no way a businessman would squander $24 million. They must have just invested it in a long term investment that will pay stellar dividends sometime before the sun super novas. (OK. I was exaggerating. The sun isn't big enough to super nova.) |

19. Chamber of Commerce!
|
The chamber of commerce is as phony as a three dollar bill. My wife, one the girls in the ladies day golf club in our area were supporting a golf tournament and ladies were coming from all over the western part of the state to play in the tournament. My wife job was to get the brochures printed up with all the hotels/motels, restaurants for meals and other places in the city for their entertainment while there were here, two day deal. I took her down to the local chamber of commerce for some help in preparing what she needed, what joke that was, no help at all and could not even tell her where she get any. Make a long story shorter we when out to the local visiting center along the Interstate and got all the help she needed, they even did the drafting of the brochures as well as printing them up, and the best part, as i remember it was free. |
