Mitt Romney's Campaign Cancels Staffers Credit Cards In The Middle Of The Night

The next time you have the misfortune of hearing a Wall Street titan or other one-percenter whine about how their trickle-down contributions are not appreciated by the masses remember this tidbit, courtesy of Garrett Haake at NBC:
- From the moment Mitt Romney stepped off stage Tuesday night, having just delivered a brief concession speech he wrote only that evening, the massive infrastructure surrounding his campaign quickly began to disassemble itself.
Aides taking cabs home late that night got rude awakenings when they found the credit cards linked to the campaign no longer worked.
No doubt a whole host of Boston taxi drivers found themselves stiffed when it came to tips early Wednesday morning. Thats what happens when the money trickles up, not down and its why healthy economies dont depend on the trickle down whims of overlords. The minute Richie Rich decides he doesnt need all that stuff staff well, thats that.

(346 posts)on a local website, a friend of mine summed it up pretty well. He stated that Twitt is a "thoroughbred P.O.S." I am pretty sure that nothing that I could add to that would make it any better.

(20,441 posts)Bain Capital claims to rehabilitate failing firms by buying them out and restructuring them to profitability before selling them, but too often, private equity firms engage in the corporate equivalent of house flipping. They buy them; they tell them to take on debt, a large percentage of which is executive bonuses and salaries; they sell the enterprise after the last checks roll in to their accounts in the Caymans. House flipping, except with entire corporations and labor forces of people.

At least our nice neighbor (but low info voter) had the sense to remove his NOBAMA sticker off his big ass truck. My husband and I call them "small dick" trucks. Overcompensation and all that.

(21,925 posts)There's the friction between Romney and Christie and why Christie barely mentioned Romney's name in his keynote convention speech. There are the stories about Ryan and Romney being called Gilligan and Stench by staffers behind their backs. There's the strange and sudden departure of Romney campaign co-chairman Tim Pawlenty just weeks before the election, there are the stories by Ann and the sons of Romney losing it and having near mental breakdowns, there are the apparent rogue moments where Romney didn't listen to his aides and criticized Obama on his handling of Libya before any facts came out, the reported infighting at Romney headquarters about Romney rejecting several drafts of his convention speech and editing out himself references to Afghanistan, tensions and finger pointing over campaign aide Stu Stevens mistake in letting Clint Eastwood give a convention speech without bothering to check in advance what it would consist of, and now this.

(21,925 posts)I'm hoping though that it will be at least as entertaining as the book about Palin's quirks, Game Change. I'm hoping all the neurotic details of Mitt's fits of anger, fear, bullying, and self-doubt emerge. It could be very ugly, and funny. Treating his staffers like dirt probably won't encourage them to hold their tongues.

(32 posts)Mitt Romney owns Bain Capital. Bain Capital owns Clear Channel, a media organisation, which owns 100's of radio and TV stations. Sheldon Adelson, Coch Brothers, and other oligarchs through Carl Rove invested about $2 billion in the Romney campaign. This money was spend in the media most of which Mitt owns through Bain capital. Mitt Romney must have come out of this election having increased his wealth tremendously to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. In the end, he is a very happy man.

(53,410 posts)Maybe their credit cards were cancelled while Mitt was on stage giving his concession speech and thanking his staff. Suddenly they wanted to save their billionaire backers' money. Let's just call it an austerity move, just like they would do to us if they won.

(3,626 posts)It's a true illustration of his total lack of character, empathy, compassion, and loyalty. Normally I'd feel sorry for the lowly employee being shafted like that, but they were part of the game. They were complicit. They are just as despicable as their former boss. They just haven't climbed the ladder to the top yet. It would be nice if even one of them had learned a lesson from this, but each and every one of them willingly and enthusiastically chose to work for a creep. So they are creeps, too, and deserve our contempt.

(9,886 posts)for these individuals. I mean, they can't expect "stuff," after all, they aren't Obama voters. The campaign work was over. Surely they didn't expect to be paid for no work, only Democrats want that. I can't imagine they had any expectations of some sort of "social contract" that they would be able to finish out their duties on someone else's dime. Personal responsibility, afterall. And hard work. Can't pay a cab fare? They should have had enough money in their pockets like any responsible person would have. Sounds like a culture of dependence to me.

Still, you'd think that all the folk who gave up normal lives to traipse around the country, trying to get him elected, might have gotten their election night hotel bills paid by the campaign
