Hannity: I've 'evolved' on immigration and support a 'pathway to citizenship'

Sean Hannity said Thursday he has “evolved” on immigration and now supports a “pathway to citizenship.”

Hannity told his radio listeners Thursday afternoon that the United States needs to “get rid of the immigration issue altogether.”

“It’s simple to me to fix it,” Hannity said. “I think you control the border first. You create a pathway for those people that are here — you don’t say you’ve got to go home. And that is a position that I’ve evolved on. Because, you know what, it’s got to be resolved. The majority of people here, if some people have criminal records you can send them home, but if people are here, law-abiding, participating for years, their kids are born here, you know, first secure the border, pathway to citizenship, done.”

3. Thus begins the Right Wings attempt to gain the Latino vote in 2016. We gotta make sure we keep it.

12. Why?

It remains to be seen how sincere some of the coming conversions will be, but:

Consider the possibility that we have won the argument here.

Sometimes an argument is won and an issue is settled. There are no politicians today who advocate for, say, the fugitive slave act. Nobody frets about "how are we going to keep the slave owner vote". It's done. It's over. Once yesterday's problems are solved, it's time to move on to today's problems.

The test here is to put the Dream Act on the table again and see if Congress will pass it and put it on Obama's desk for his signature. That's the test of the sincerity of these professed conversions.

If, through whatever miracle, we can solve the actual problems and issues confronting Latino voters then that's a more important goal than "how do we keep their vote". That's the kind of thinking which led the GOP to keep evangelical voters captive for three decades with "outlawing abortion is just around the corner", but never really delivering anything or making a serious effort to do it.

It just strikes me as patronizing to say "oh now they are stealing our thunder" if the other side starts to agree. Normally, getting the other side to agree with us is the goal - and not some kind of tactical setback.

Not so good, I hear?

Also, Mr. Hannity, I will believe you have evolved when you drag yourself out of the slime pit and learn to walk upright. Not before.

13. They are between

a rock and a hard place.

Republicans must change to remain a viable party. If they return to more moderate conservative positions such as this one on immigration, they will alienate their racist Tea Party and Fundie base. If they cater only to their racist Tea Party and Fundie base, then what moderates remain will slowly and steadily leave the party as I did.

Furthermore, as this election proved, crazy is not conservative and will no longer win them elections without gerrymandering and attempts at suppression and stealing of votes.

15. Evolved has he?

I can hardly wait for this cretin to declare his support now for gay marriage, his support for taxing the rich fairly, and yes, his support for the ACA.

Evolved my ass. Has-been-ity must be planning to run for office as a romney clone - be anything to win some votes from people he is already known to hate.

16. Just Wait

When the shock has worn off the pain clears and allows his brain to recover to his bigoted thinking. He'll realize we still have the house, there is a new teabagger senator from Texas, the country is evenly divided {he think}s the President has no mandate on and on he'll fight back to his familiar racist self

20. Opinion pieces aren't news for LBN purposes. They're simply opinions. Locking.

Suggest another forum for this, GD or Politics 2012. Thanks.
