Obama's win forces Walker's hand on healthcareLast edited Wed Nov 7, 2012, 07:57 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2)

MADISON, Wis. — President Barack Obama's re-election is forcing the hand of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who had stopped all efforts to implement the federal health care reform law in the hopes that Republicans would take over in Washington. Obama's victory coupled with Democrats' keeping control of the Senate assures that the Affordable Health Care Act will continue to go into effect. Walker's administration and Republican leaders in the state Legislature are now scrambling to figure out their next move. Wisconsin faces a Nov. 16 deadline to inform the Obama administration whether the state will implement an online health care marketplace, or exchange, or let the federal government do it. Each state's exchange must be operational in 2014 under the health care law. Walker told reporters Wednesday in Milwaukee that he will be meeting with state officials this week to discuss the next steps. He downplayed the urgency of the situation, saying no matter what the state does, the federal government won't review it for months. Walker has said he doesn't think it would be a problem for the state to get an extension. "Even after notifying them, we have until next fall to make modifications as we see fit," Walker said. "We haven't made a decision yet." Read more: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505245_162-57546527/obamas-win-forces-walkers-hand-on-health-care/

Unbelievable.

21. cement head perry says no to a lot of stuff in public...
|
but then falls to pieces behind the scenes were reporters can't get information.
It will then be revealed many months down the road that cement head perry conceded but by that point, the conversation will be upended by something that won't matter but will be shiny enough to distract the public. |

Here in Florida our loon Gov. Scott already said he's going tor eject the Medicaid expansion, but the legislature hasn't been as firm as he has. I'm hoping the hospitals put enough pressure on them now that the Pres. has been re-elected to accept the money. The level of uninsured people in this state is insane.

2. We need some good news in our state politics.
|
I was wondering when this would come up...that he MUST implement the law. We have a great Badgercare program that was better before Walker got a hold of it. Now we can make it great again for MORE people!

"No Tax fer Tracks!" and other bullshittery. Not to mention most of the state is rural with Fox being on the cheap channels.
That said, I never had anyone actually go door-to-door the past couple of elections. |

12. They can't, really. By default, that state's plan would then be managed by the Fed. govt.
|
But all the people in the state would still have access to insurance plans.

9. Oklahoma is in the same TEAPOT
|
We will be better off here if our teabagger governor and her legislature let the Feds set up the exchanges.
FYI the 3 x 1 teabagger anti-Obama vote also dis-established the Department of Human Services via state question. As well as declaring an end to "affirmative action." I guess that's better than when we (recently) declared Oklahoma will not "honor" Sharia law. I'm wondering what the "end" of DHS means . . . . |

24. DHS
|
Thanks, but my question is forward-looking: what will our teabagger governor and legislature do.
I suspect it will be a "Scott Walker/Wisconsin" attack on the "civil service" employees of the agency. They're working hard to kill the State government's revenues by simply shutting down the tax base. Without money to staff adequately, you can bet services will just get worse, and more kids will be exposed to abuse. |

26. I see
|
But if they take Federal money they have to comply with Federal standards to get that money.Maybe that will keep them honest. The article said they were not amused with the way the commission was supervising the agency, I see it could go deeper than that.
I don't understand the mindset of politicians that feel a need to make life so unbearable that most of the citizens hate them.Historically they all seem to target the weakest and poorest amongst them.Disgusting.But then again I am in a totally blue state,we wouldn't put up with that crap for 5 seconds here.Good Luck! |

Can't Walker figure out that he's supposed to be serving the people of his state--the state that went strongly for Obama in this election--and not trying to hold their health care hostage to his grandiose fantasies of power and manipulation?
