Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) won re-election against Rep. Danny Rehberg (R-Mont.), projected the Associated Press on Wednesday morning.

.....................

Tester won election in 2006 in a Democratic wave, and was a prime target for Republicans in their hopes to take over the Senate.

At the presidential level, Romney won the state by 13 points.

The race incurred nearly $30 million in outside spending, with a majority of the cash favoring Rehberg. 89,000 television ads ran in the state from June to October, according to the Wesleyan Media project, more than any other race in the country.

1. Awesome!

Donated to his campaign this year. He's one of my faves in the Senate. Hope he considers running for POTUS in '16.

10. And HEIDI wins the ND Senate seat too! Rove alone spent $25 a vote and still they lost.

And the Outsiders lost in a state that votes very, very red in the Presidential contest!

11. If that one is official now, then this entire Senate cycle went very well!

I wish Carmona could have beat the teabagger down in Arizona, but otherwise we won every seat I thought we would have a chance at, except maybe Nevada.

15. No doubt in my mind, Akin and Mourdock pushed Heidi over the top

when it comes to determining how women voted in ND.

And the voting bloc that delivered the victory? Credit probably goes to Native America turnout.

It really helped a lot to have Rove spending so much, showing the ND'ans that Berg is "an outsider" in his own state, and emphasizing his 1%'erness at that.

14. Terrific news!

Citizens United and its dark money spinoff didn't quite deliver to the extent that Karl Rove, Kochs, et al had hoped.

12. I'm not really sure Montanans like outside interference in their elections

Citizens' United overturned Montana campaign finance law meant to keep state elections clean, as I understand.

It's nice to see the state deliver a big FU to the SCOTUS by showing, through its vote, that its elections can't be bought anyway.

13. I know my parents really, really don't (they live there)

They were plenty pissed that so much outside money was coming into the state to try to buy the seat for Rehberg, so today is a great day for them--and every other Montanan who voted for Tester.

16. Having seen some ugly stuff in MT this summer, I'm thrilled!

I spent a week up in Bigfork and saw some really ugly, racist signs about Obama and the commercials then for Rehberg were pretty bad, so I'm really glad to see his sorry ass shot down. Hell, I'll gladly now go back up to one of the prettiest places I've ever been to - Flathead Lake.
