Dems appear to regain control of the Legislature, but many races still too close to call (Maine)

Source: Bangor News

BANGOR, Maine — Democrats in Maine appeared to retake control of both chambers of the Legislature after Tuesday’s elections, though the exact tallies won’t be known until several close races are decided.

As of 7:45 a.m. Monday, Democrats had won 13 seats in the Maine Senate and were leading in another six races, and had won 68 seats in the Maine House and were leading in another 14 races, according to unofficial results compiled by the Bangor Daily News. Republicans had won 10 and were leading in five races in the Senate and had won 42 and were leading in 18 in the House. Non-party or Green Independent candidates took one seat in the Senate and had won two seats in the House, with a lead in another two races.

It takes 18 seats in the Senate and 76 seats in the House for a majority.

But for many legislative hopefuls in Maine, the suspense didn’t end with the close of the polls on Election Day. Several races across the state in which all results were available early Wednesday were too close to call with a less than 150-vote spread.

1. ....

Between this, Obama's win, Gay marriage win, and the reset of the clock on the Mainecare thing, I am one happy camper. Only thing that would have made me happier is for a few more Repubs to have lost their House seats.

4. Love Maine!

So glad it went well on so many fronts for my friends and family in Maine! Love the winters on the coast and the deep friendships fostered by mutual respect and love.
