Minnesota: Gay marriage amendment loses

Source: Pioneer Press/TwinCities.com

With a majority of the state's precincts reporting early Wednesday, Nov. 7, a proposed constitutional amendment to write man-woman marriage into the constitution has apparently lost.

The defeat is historic, making Minnesota the first state to turn back an attempt to write man-woman marriage into a state constitution.

said that marriage had to be between a man and a woman - in other words, it would have incorporated anti-gay bigotry in the constitution. Fortunately, it was voted down!

North Carolina is going back to its fucked-in-the-head Jesse Helms regressive ways.

I really need to get the hell out of here.

If the move is only across the border to Virginia, it will be a waste of time. We have the same amendment here, thanks to Bob Marshall.

So it could be worse, trust me.

I am disappointed at the governor's race. I'm a state employee and Republicans are ALWAYS bad for us.

I'm not so sure it woulda passed if they hadn't "hidden" it in the primary election.... a primary that had no need for liberals to vote since Obama was already the candidate. It didn't win by a land slide. Had it been a regular election, seriously, it might have lost.

But of course NC just barely went red again. I don't get it. The current conservative legislation here sucks! The state has already taken 2 steps backwards. Every time NC has a real chance of breaking out of that Southern slump of red, the conservatives here freak and squash it somehow. NC is not the deep south, though for some unfathomable reason, the good-ol' boys want it to become Alabama!

All kinds of nice! We've suffered enough. This time we got the breaks. But we have to be vigilant. Too many of the opposition will take the wrong lessons from this defeat. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!! And DO NOT let them gain a foothold with the Latino vote!!!!

Maine and Maryland broke the winning streak for anti-equality. The president who opposes DOMA was reelected and the Senate that will confirm any new justices stayed with Democrats.

The Republicans legislature that gave us nothing but this piece of hate and their also defeated voter suppression amendment is out, and now we have a DFL legislature that can send a bill to pass it to the Governor's desk!
