Tim Kaine Defeats George Allen In Virginia Senate Race

Source: TPM

Democrat Tim Kaine defeated Republican George Allen on Tuesday night in a close and widely watched Senate contest in Virginia.

CBS News and NBC called the race for Kaine, a former governor of Virginia and chairman of the Democratic National Committee. He ran as a pragmatic problem-solver in the important swing state and painted Allen as an ideologue wedded to the tea party.

Ive called Tim and congratulated him, Allen told his supporters during his concession speech, as he thanked them. We still remain friends personally and thats an important thing. Ive congratulated him and pledged my support as he takes on the task of (representing the people of Virginia). It has been a long and difficult campaign, he said. Its also been a joyful one.

Kaine will replace retiring one-term Sen. Jim Webb (D). Allen is a former Virginia senator and governor.

6. Never worried at all about this race. Kaine was consistently ahead right up to Election Day.

And we worked incredibly hard in VA to make sure people there remembered how well Kaine served them as governor.

10. If macaca's only failing was that he wears cowboy boots with a suit,

I'd still despise the motherfucker. Goodbye for good, I hope, to that shit-for-brains fuckbasket...

12. I'm happy for Kaine. He's been an Obama ally since the start and the media was trying

to attack him for that.

13. I was on a conference/town hall call with Tim Kaine last week...

he recited a list of five issues and asked those of us on the call to vote for the one that was most important to us.

The last one he mentioned was women's rights/civil rights. It won by a landslide.

I feel good.
