Marianne Gingrich reportedly claims Newt wanted 'open marriage'

Politico:
Brian Ross, the ABC News reporter who interviewed Marianne Gingrich, lifts the curtain a bit on what she told him, via WMAL:

He came to her and said, 'I want to stay married to you and still have an affair with Calista, his current wife," said Ross. "According to Marianne, he said 'You need to share me,' and she said 'I don't want to share,' and the marriage ended," he added.

The big question is which of the three stories is going to get lost in all of tomorrow's Newt news?

from the Grey Eminences of the Party for this? They need to knock the Salamander out fast, before he does even more damage to Willard's electability by exposing his deep involvement in legalized corporate corruption?

It's not just the damage to Willard that's in play here. It's also the damage to the whole right-wing mythology of capitalism. The Salamander is dynamiting the foundations of corporate capitalism in his desperate attempt to bring down Willard. Holy cow, Cayman money laundering? 15% taxes? Job destruction? A lot of (fat)cats are coming out of the bag here, and Willard stands as a sort of testament to the evils of the corporate state.

What always gets to me is not the sin, but the hypocrisy. I remember Newt, Edwards, Vitter, and many others wagging an accusatory finger at Clinton over a BJ. Meantime they had full fledged affairs, and in some cases, even children with these women.

"I do believe in a forgiving God. And I think most people, deep down in their hearts, hope

as we get older, we seek mercy. There's something to that, I think," he added.

How Newt Stopped Marianne From Revealing Secrets the First Time
—By David Corn
| Thu Jan. 19, 2012 1:31 PM PST

~snip~
Gingrich's six-year-long extramarital tryst with Callista Bisek, a congressional aide at the time, is not news. But his alleged effort to define his own marriage as a union between a man and a woman and a woman had not been previously reported.

It's not much of a surprise that Marianne would lob this bombshell at this point. She and Newt went through an acrimonious divorce in 1999. Back then, as a recovering Newt-watcher, I covered some of those proceedings and on occasion spoke to Marianne. What was striking at the time was that Gingrich seemed to be the one acting vindictively in the proceedings. Marianne appeared to just want a clean exit (with the right amount of compensation). Here's part of a dispatch I wrote for Salon:

“We don’t know. We just don’t know. If you find out, let me know. It’s a mystery.” So said Marianne Gingrich, the soon-to-be ex-wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, when asked why she thought Newt was being a hard-ass in the divorce proceedings he initiated against her.

We were talking Tuesday morning in a courtroom in the Superior Court of Washington, minutes before the latest hearing in the case, and I remarked that it was hard to make sense of Newt’s scorched-earth approach to the divorce, which has already revealed his six-year-long extramarital affair with congressional aide Calista Bisek and tainted whatever was left of his image as a family-values Republican.

"'If a man commits adultery with another man's wife--with the wife of his neighbor--both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

We are a Judeo-Christian nation after all.

70. Funny the hypocrites use the old testament to condemn gays to hellfire

And then give a pass to a serial adulterer like Newt! Same book condemns Newty as well!

This just proves that the anti gay so-called Christian right is all about hatred period. Or they would be the first to condemn Newty but hell naw, they just want any old slimeball to defeat a real married family man with one wife and two nice kids because he is not WHITE!

Just watch all the Ayn Rand/mammon loving preachers stand up for Newt and praise him as Gods man to save Amerrca! Damn hypocrites!

That means, if by some chance Newt gets to the WH, there will be a first mistress/concubine as well as a first lady. And may be more too!

He became a newly minted Catholic when he married the third Mrs. Gingrich. I don't remember "sharing" in any of the RC wedding vows.

88. Well it is quite obvious Newt wanted to screw around

Newt is on wife number three after cheating on one and two. I just wonder who is in the background as number four.

Oh those family values and the sanctity of marriage. We so really need to protect marriage from the gays. Oops, though, heterosexuals are doing a great job of destroying marriage all on their own. What is the rate of divorce these days?

Maybe if all you asshats want to save marriage you should outlaw divorce. That might just make people take a couple of thoughts about getting hitched.

why is she coming out with it now? And my thoughts are because she has a sounding board. Little old newt wasn't really given a public voice like now, when he's running for office. So, now she also has public media access.

He's outraged I tell you. How dare she do this now!!!! Again, it's about character. But, it won't really matter to some repugs, they'll excuse just about anything. Including his statements about going over the supremes, children used for labor to break a union, or allowing the corporate sharks to further screw us by total deregulation.

Yes, we too can have the chinese dream. Making 35 cents an hour, working over thirty hours a day, be imprisoned for attempting to form a union and have safety nets to catch us when we decide we've had enough. What these "new" sociopathic, greedy repugs want is a return to the gilded age. Where the true masters, the robber barons, ruled the land.

93. Clearly, this is consistent with the GOP's "anti-union" and Open Shop policy.

Newt was only humoring her when he engaged in collective bargaining with her. If you're going to be anti-union, it should apply to ANY union, including the marital union. Newt clearly supports a "Right To Bonk" platform plank. She's silly if she thought she could strike.

pissed off. It always the WOMAN's fault huh. Newt is such a PERFECT husband. These goppers always play the VICTIM card.

I hope wife number three don't get an illness b/c Newt will (if not already have another) move on to wife number four.
