Criminal Investigation of GOP Voter Registration Worker Arrested for Destroying Forms in VA Expands to Probe of RNC-Hired Firm
Nathan Sproul's Strategic Allied Consulting may have violated state law with deceptive partisan registration scheme
GOP operative with checkered past blames 'liberal bloggers' for bad reputation...

A criminal investigation into voter registration fraud by a company hired by the Republican National Committee for some $3 million to sign up voters in at least five key battleground states this year is now widening, according to a new report by the Washington Post.

The reason for the expansion appears to relate to an overlooked aspect of the nationwide GOP Voter Registration Fraud Scandal highlighted initially by The BRAD BLOG some weeks ago.

The probe by the office of Virginia's Attorney General began last week after the State Board of Elections voted unanimously to refer the matter to state law enforcement officials after 23-year old Colin Small was arrested in Harrisonburg and charged with 13 election fraud counts for allegedly dumping completed voter registration forms into a dumpster.

Small had been hired by Strategic Allied Consulting, a firm created over the summer by Mitt Romney's paid political consultant and longtime GOP activist Nathan Sproul. Sproul has said the company was registered in Virginia, without his name on it, at the request of the RNC, due to myriad election registration fraud allegations in multiple states, in multiple elections, as long ago as 2004. An RNC spokesman has said he's unaware of the party's request, though Sproul has told The BRAD BLOG he stands by the claim. The issue resulted in a testy exchange with a Denver television reporter this week. (That video is posted at the end of this article.)

According to the Post, "state prosecutors canceled Colin Smallís grand jury testimony to gather more information, with their focus expanding to the firm that had employed Small, which is led by longtime GOP operative Nathan Sproul."

"State authorities are seeking to learn whether any of Smallís supervisors instructed him or any of his 40 co-workers in Virginia to ask potential voters about their political leanings during registration drives," according to two unnamed sources cited by the paper. "Asking such questions could be a violation of state election law," WaPo reports.

Last month, in an investigative report by The BRAD BLOG, we highlighted video-taped and other evidence from half a dozen states, including Virginia, detailing how Sproul had trained his workers to misrepresent themselves as pollsters to potential registrants in order to determine their political leanings before offering to register them to vote. The ruse was meant as a way to register only Republican voters, while keeping Obama supporters from being able to register at all...

4. This needs to be a serious federal crime

It needs to be a serious federal crime to prevent legitimate voters from casting a vote and having their vote counted. Among the penalties should be a loss of voting rights and a prison sentence. Judges, , including the Supremes, elections officials, Secretaries of State and others should be removed from office for aiding and abetting this real kind of voters fraud.

There is no legitimate government except by the consent of the governed. It should be one of the most serious of crimes to try to install a government that is illegitimate. We and the world has payed an enormous price for the Bush v. Gore five's crime.

11. While I'm steadfastly opposed to capital punishment ...

... I'm also livid when people commit crimes against the very fabric of a democracy, attempting to deprive large numbers of people of their civil rights. It's tantamount to treason, with more than a hint of a crime against humanity. It is made even worse when it is committed in collusion with folks who're violating a public trust, in that they're operating within the sphere of the electoral process itself.

Prison. Throw away the key.

Not only for those "directly" involved, but those who knowingly harbored, masked, and enabled such actions.

6. Sproul, Rove, Kochs -- RICO prosecution, A.G. Holder? Thanks, Brad Blog.

The Feds should be following these guys around, like they did to DeNiro's Jimmy 'the Gent' Burke character in GoodFellows. Or like they were peaceful anti-war or OWS activists.

7. Nothing Illegal Here

What they're doing is not illegal because GAWWD (God) wants them to defeat the "devil worshiping", "abortion loving" "Democrat" Party.

It's amazing how the billionaire plutocrats like the Kochs can have guys like Rove use the fanatical zeal of the Christian Right to make a mockery of the democratic process. These morons fall for it every time and are even willing to commit crimes in a belief that God wants them to do it. But remember: only Republicans are patriots and Freedom lovers. I'll never again wonder how the Nazis were able to dupe so many people and achieved power.

9. Brad, The republicans knew who and what they were getting w/ Sproul

His specialty is to remove democrats from being registered voters or
to stop them from registering in the first place ..... he did this in Ohio
in 2004 ..... and I think he is still working in Ohio now. My son registered
at a table set up in the city of Akron and it sounded fishy to me so I had
him check the Summit county BOE list of registered voters and he was not
on it. (He did register properly the last day he could)

I hope the feds follow the food chain on this case because Small worked
for Sproul and Sproul share a mailing address and offices w/ on Mr. K. Rove.

I am sick of hearing what a genius Rove is because he might be smart but
he is just a cheater and crook when you get down to it.

10. As a Virginian.....

I am struck by the photos showing this young man when he worked in a Republican Congressman's office and his mug shot. It seems the mug shot has a way of de-egoizing ones sense of self. What a carpetbagger!
