Joe Donnelly Building Lead In Indiana, Polls Show (Rape Nut Mourdock 11 Points Behind)

Source: Huffington Post

Indiana Democrat Joe Donnelly shows signs of pulling ahead of Richard Mourdock in the closely fought race to replace Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.). Donnelly leads, 47 percent to 36 percent, according to a Howey/DePauw University Battleground Poll released Friday morning.

Past Howey/DePauw surveys showed the two candidates tied in March, and put Donnelly 2 points ahead in September.

“It’s all over but the crying,” Republican pollster Christine Matthews wrote of the race, according to the Star. Matthews conducted the survey along with Democratic pollster Fred Yang.

Mourdock has been hit hard for his controversial comments about pregnancy from rape, which he said was "something that God intended to happen." The Democratic group American Bridge 21st Century is mailing audio brochures that replay the comment to voters.

5. The Mourdock spin is rich

On the Indianapolis Star article the HuffPost cites, the Mourdock people say their internal polling shows them with a 2-point lead and tried to paint Howey/DePauw as a "Democrat poll" because one of the people conducting it has also done work for the Democrats. But the other chief pollster is, by design, a Republican.

Once again proving, I guess, that the facts have a well-known liberal bias...

The Star piece suggests Mourdock might be lifted by Pence's coattails from the race for Governor, but I wonder whether it will work in the other direction. Gregg has internal polling that places him closer to Pence than Howey/DePauw, and I can expect Mourdock's negatives are more likely to drag Pence down than that Pence's bland stroll to presumed coronation will elevate voter sentiment for Mourdock.

I spent the last week in Indianapolis on business and found that Moudock was not the norm, but more of a zealot idiot. I had my preconceived notion before I got to town, I will admit, but the general feeling is one of suprise that he is trying to act as though he represents the citizens!! Good Job Indiana!! Stand up and show how smart you are!

if you left the city, drove north, south east or west into the country, you'll see all kinds of conservatives rooting for Pence, Mourdock and all others that believe God rules this state.

Welcome to DU!

Cheers from Indy.

You'd think it would be that easy whenever a question related to that is asked but for some reason they're incapable of learning.

It's clear that when voters know what they're pushing, the teabagger brand is electoral poison. Unless they can find a way to keep their votes without running the lunatic candidates, the Republicans are in serious trouble over the next few years. The only things they really have going their way are the gerrymanders they carved out from the 2010 census and the Citizens United cash. Everything else, ranging from demographics to plain old having policy ideas that are even plausible works against them.

Hilarious , Lugar was a half way decent moderate R. In this heavy Repuke state, he would have kept winning for as long as he wanted to run.

Except, they run a nut job teabagger against Lugar and win the primary. Now Joe Donnelly (D) is probably going to be a new Senator. HA HA.

On a sad note, it looks like the new governor is going to be worse than Mitch Daniels (R), Mike Pence (R) nut job teabagger.

I understand that Gregg kept referring to the "Mourdock/Pence" ticket in the gubernatorial debate, which pissed off Pence to no end. That race does seem to have tightened up in recent polling, though it also still looks like Pence is in the driver's seat.
