Syrian rebels kill 28 soldiers, several executed
Source: Reuters
By Oliver Holmes October 31, 2012 BEIRUT - Anti-government rebels killed 28 soldiers on Thursday in attacks on three army checkpoints around Saraqeb, a town on Syria's main north-south highway, a monitoring group said. Some of the dead were shot after they had surrendered, according to video footage. Rebels berated them, calling them "Assad's Dogs", before firing round after round into their bodies as they lay on the ground. The highway linking the capital Damascus to the contested city of Aleppo, Syria's commercial center, has been the scene of heavy fighting since rebels cut the road last month. Saraqeb lies about 40 km (25 miles) south of Aleppo. The United States meanwhile has called for an overhaul of Syria's opposition leadership, signaling a break with the largely foreign-based Syrian National Council to bring in more credible figures. 1. Ok. So what becomes of the SNC when the NCC tries to take over? Civil war within a civil war?
|
What do the Saudis and the Qataris have to say about this? Which side do the Turks favor, since the NCC includes three Kurdish national groups?

2. Nah, this is just a grassroots, home grown action by the Syrian people!!1111!!!
|
There's no reason to worry about what factions are behind the scenes or making up the rebel forces!!1111!!!! I'm sure those soldiers DESERVED it for some unspecified bad shit and had no other tribal or religious affiliations that would have provoked execution.

6. I find it funny they are called rebels
|
they are terrorists, largely funded and armed by Saudi Arabia, and supported by the right wing here in the US.

8. Rebels shown killing captured Syrian troops
|
BEIRUT (AP) -- A new video appears to show Syrian rebels killing a group of captured soldiers, drawing condemnations from human rights groups who warned on Friday that the gunmen may have committed a war crime.
An anti-regime activist organization said the killings took place near the northern town Saraqeb, which has been the scene in past weeks of heavy fighting between rebels and forces of President Bashar Assad's regime. Human rights groups said they were trying to confirm the video's authenticity. The footage was consistent with other Associated Press reporting in the area. The video is dated Thursday, a day when the Observatory reported heavy attacks by rebels on regime checkpoints at Saraqeb. The video shows rebels bearing and kicking a group of captured soldiers, some of the apparently wounded. The soliders are not bound or blindfolded. The rebels then shoot them to death. The exact number of soldiers in the video not clear, but appears to be around 10. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/ML_SYRIA?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-11-02-07-31-57 |
