Bill Clinton: Romney Is Running To Steal Credit For Obama’s Recovery

Source: TPM

Former President Bill Clinton told an Orlando, Fla., audience that Mitt Romney’s vague economic plan is part of a scheme to get elected, then steal credit for a President Obama’s coming recovery.

Clinton cited recent reports that top economists and financial firms are predicting a strong boost to growth soon, likely matching Romney’s current pledge to create 12 million jobs over the next four years, whether or not he’s elected.

According to Clinton, America is looking at 4 percent GDP growth soon, double the current rate, as long as “we don’t mess it up.” The danger then is that Romney will win the election then “cut taxes for wealthy people,” “gut the Medicaid program,” slash aid to education and scientific research, then claim these policies as the reason an already inevitable short term bump occurred in his first term.

Despite the brief gains, Romney will “take the future out” of the budget, Clinton said, undoing Obama’s hard-fought efforts to put the country on a path to more solid gains. That means the president’s work navigating the country through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression will be forgotten: “Obama won’t even get the credit, because Romney wants to get credit for the 12 million jobs that Obama laid the foundation for.”

bill and then take credit for something that was Obama's idea. In fact, they will steal all of his ideas and make them their own. Not to mention, the trillions that the banks are still sitting on: suddenly they will start lending again. Hiring will pick up. Romney and the Republicans will take credit.

My biggest fear of a Romney/Republican dominance: Americans, convinced that it was the Republicans who saved the economy, will continue to vote for Republicans for years to come.

On one side, the Democrat are proud of their legacy, heritage, having former president or even failed presidential candidate out front in the public.

On the other side, the Repub hides their past, (Shrub) like a skeleton in the closet, like a felon hides past conviction.

Yet... they run neck in neck in this election.

Sigh!! what the heck is wrong with this country???

panders to the stupid--profiting from sleazy shows and twenty-four hour/day infotainment channels that must be filled with sensationalism and micro-measuring (instead of news).

And, a major political party that has become one with the capitalist ethic, "ANYTHING to make a buck". It has attached itself to mega-corporate interests, infiltrated media and allied itself with Catholic and Evangelical institutions in order to propagate pseudo-christian brainwashing.

The Oligarchs are running our country. They will steal/privatize everything that will bring them the most profit, and they will ask us for more, and more will never be enough I hope to see a strong resurgence of Occupy Wall Street. We should all participate and give them our support.

picked up the 12 million jobs prediction earlier. Now President Clinton is pointing out what the Press should have done a long time ago if they just did their jobs instead of going on goose chases perpetrated by the Republican propaganda machine. John Kerry picked it up a while back when he said Romney was perpetrating a fraud on the American people.

Romney lied about the Olympics and Massachusetts. He got Government money from his Republican pals in Congress to help with the Salt Lake City Olympics as well as got tax credits from the State of Utah. He did not save the Olympics on his own. He also got Federal money to help him in Massachusetts when he cut his own state's budget. Why do people think he asked for a waiver on Welfare from the Federal Government? He also had Federal money to help him with Romney care in that state. Most of the credit should have been given to Ted Kennedy because that was his life long project. So Romney pretends he did all those things on his own under False pretenses. This guy has shown a pattern of lying.More like Romnesia.

You can bet there wouldn't be 12 million jobs added like there would be under Obama. Romney would institute brutal spending cuts on the poor, while adding 2 trillion in military spending and huge tax cuts for the rich. That is a recipe for disaster, as we have seen under Reagan and Dubya. That is why Krugman predicts a double-dip recession if Romney wins.

It will all be blamed on President Obama. they'll say that things are a LOT worse than they realized before the election, and that Obama left things in an even more disastrous condition than they could have ever imagined.
the scripts are probably ready to be passed out to the sheepherders at faux news.

That things will get much better, due to Obama's policies- and the the repugs will take full credit, backed by their media lapdogs...the hoi polloi will buy into it, the repugs consolidate power by then changing the rules, and the Democratic Party becomes all but entirely inconsequential for a generation or two.

I'm going to need a LOT of medication to make it thru the next 8 days...and if rmoney steals it, even MORE for the next 8 years.

President Obama's achievements and the recovery. As always, Republicans want to take credit for other people's work.

They still haven't bounced back from the reputation they've created for themselves because of the catastrophic failures of twelve years of a Republican Congress and eight years of an inept Republican pResident. They need to regain a modicum of credibility as a political party that can help the country, and it's clear they want to use all that President Obama and the Democrats have worked so hard for in that endeavor.

Those 12 million jobs will not materalize under a Romney presidency because his plans would cause a decrease in aggregate demand and move the country back into recession. Romney would chop off at the knees the ongoing recovery. Paul Krugman is saying pretty much the same thing. Now I do agree if Clinton is meaning that that is the rationale behind Romney's thinking but I don't read his comments that way.

As we speak, the economy is taking baby steps toward recovery. (I hate to use that term, seeing as how that fucking idiot Dave Ramsey uses it in his "Financial Peace University," but it is what it is.) Romney's austerity program is fully capable of erasing all the gains President Obama made in his term in a very short period of time. I give Romneynomics six months to send us back to Bush-level despair, and that's being generous.

If Romney wins the election he won't be able to take credit for Obama's recovery because it will no longer exist. The game plan is to completely destroy the economy then blame it all on Obama's policies, specifically ARRA, Obamacare and the automaker bailouts.
