Chris Christie Praises Obama For Hurricane Sandy Preparation

Source: Huffington Post

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) put aside his campaigning for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Sunday to praise President Barack Obama for his responsiveness to the Garden State's needs in preparing for Hurricane Sandy.

During a briefing with emergency personnel, residents and press, Christie thanked Obama for holding a conference call with him and governors of other states expected to be impacted by the storm, the Star-Ledger reports.

“I appreciated the president’s outreach today in making sure that we know he’s watching this and is concerned about the health and welfare and safety of the people of the state of New Jersey,” he said.

.............................

Christie also announced Sunday that he is asking Obama to issue a pre-landfall emergency declaration for New Jersey in order to expedite federal assistance for the state. A press release from Christie's office indicated that such a declaration would allow New Jersey to start requesting federal funds and other aid in advance of the storm. Obama issued a similar declaration for New York state.

I fear for loss of life, utility outages and property damage in large porportions. The storm packs a triple whammy of wind, rain and snow over a large area. Next I fear the romneycan'ts will play their political tomfoolery with the entire disaster with all the assistance from the media. I hope the media respects that this is not news to mess with in any way. Show us facts, please!

wind is picking up, raining, power outages spreading, road closures. And we are still hours away from landfall.LIPA is saying to be prepared for 7-10 days without power! The storm surge is going to be a big big problem, along with flooding and erosion. Plus both Long Island counties are in financial extremis, so it is going to be a problem on lots of levels. I just hope we have no loss of life.

I don't give a rat's ass whether Christie's motivation is the 2016 elections or whatever. Romney is trying to paint himself as the great bipartisan hope. Having a repub governor praise the President is a good thing. And spitting in his eye would be the colossal blunder of all time. Of course, there is not chance that the President would do such a thing. Only armchair politicos on DU would think he should.

Granted he probably didn't have a real chance at getting it. This will be brought up by any puke challenger he ever has. Good for him though. Good to see a puke pull their head out of their ass for atleast 5 minutes.

I hope I find it ... I thought it was kind of insensitive when these people are looking at possible loss of electricity, personal items, vehicles, houses and/or lives. the dumb shit

If only President Obama had been President during Hurricane Katrina (and for that matter, 9/11). History would be incredibly different and countless lives would have been saved.
