To climate change? I could see pinning Sandy it. Or earthquakes near tracking sites. But not one so far out.

30. Here is a very good explanation of why we should expect more earthquakes

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/feb/26/why-climate-change-shake-earth

"The signs are that this is already happening. In the detached US state of Alaska, where climate change has propelled temperatures upwards by more than 3C in the last half century, the glaciers are melting at a staggering rate, some losing up to 1km in thickness in the last 100 years. The reduction in weight on the crust beneath is allowing faults contained therein to slide more easily, promoting increased earthquake activity in recent decades. The permafrost that helps hold the state's mountain peaks together is also thawing rapidly, leading to a rise in the number of giant rock and ice avalanches. In fact, in mountainous areas around the world, landslide activity is on the up; a reaction both to a general ramping-up of global temperatures and to the increasingly frequent summer heatwaves."

20. Luckily the region the quake struct in is very sparesly populated and...

and so are all the regions that would be affected by any potential tsunami, which isn't to say there is absolutely no danger. Nothing was felt here in Vancouver.

I'm more worried about our forceasted mega 8 or 9+ magnitude quake that will happen one day on the Cascadia fault. I wonder if this quake transferred any extra stress to it?

38. Bite me. Thousands of people live in the West Coast tsunami zone

Real humans have died from tsunami on the West Coast of the US as recently as 2011. Crescent City CA was destroyed by a tsunami in 1964: 289 buildings and destroyed, 12 people were confirmed dead, over 100 were injured, and 30 city blocks destroyed.
A shockingly ill informed and calloused comment. Full of BS from BC.

Cause even the largest tsunamis are only a few cm high in the open ocean. It's only when they reach landfall that their energy is compressed upward into a large wave.
