1,100 new Chrysler workers to begin working on SUVs next week at Jefferson North 2:22 PM, October 25, 2012 By Brent Snavely Detroit Free Press Business Writer About 1,100 new Chrysler employees will begin working next week on a third crew at Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit as sales of Jeep Grand Cherokees continue to rise. The automaker has added about 7,000 workers at plants in the U.S. and Canada since emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2009. Now it is planning to add a third crew of workers at the Warren truck plant by March. Chrysler’s Jefferson North plant has been running heavy overtime for months. “Having a third shift at Jefferson North has been eagerly anticipated, and it is going to help normalize the work schedule and give our employees back some of their personal time and still allow us to meet the demand that we are seeing from our customers,” said Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson. 1. And here I am thinking Michigan screams go blue for the Wolverines.
|
They also obviously do it for Barack "Best for the Economy" Obama, aka the Commander-in-Chief that even his opponent cannot help but emulate.

More fuel efficient ones are on the way with 8 speed automatics and diesels. New variations of the Grand Cherokee platform include a Maserati super highline version and longer 7 passenger version bringing back the Grand Wagoneer nameplate. Chrysler needs more capacity.
Across the border in Ohio, a smaller state of the art baby Cherokee is on the way with advanced engines and a world leading 9 speed automatic. This new vehicle will be built in Toledo and these transmissions in Kokomo Indiana. Toledo is Jeep's home and builds the incredibly successful Wrangler, an American icon which is now being sold around the world. Chinese tariffs make American built Jeeps four times more expensive in China and yet they sold 19,000 Jeeps with prices as high as $189,000. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-22/jeeps-sell-for-189-750-as-china-demand-offsets-tariffs.html |

10. You don't need to sell me on Jeeps.

Over the years I've had Grand Cherokee, Cherokee , Wrangler and now my current Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD Sahara. The 2.8 CRD does about 26 to one of your gallons. I'm guessing the Masaerati one you mentioned will be to compete against Audi's Q7 V12 TDI with a bored out R10 racing engine - 490bhp bit like the Jeep SRT but diesel.

12. US EPA MPG is only 16 mpg for a Unlimited
|
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/PowerSearch.do?action=noform&path=1&year1=2012&year2=2012&make=Jeep&model=Wrangler%20Unlimited%204WD&srchtyp=ymm
Now, Europe may have the Wrangler in a Diesel, but that is NOT sold in the US. US Pollution laws on Diesels are stricter then the laws in Diesels in Europe and must car makers in regard to US Cars did not even try to meet those requirements. That has changed over the last 5-10 years, but we in the States have way less options as to Diesels then people in Europe and the rest of the World. Furthermore, in the US, we have to cite the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Miles per gallon (MPG) rate. This is due to a law passed in the early 1970s when the car companies were making all types of claim of high mileage for their cars. They did NOT say NOW that mileage was achieved, but that it was done. One case was they drive something like 200 miles on a road that went downhill for that distance, and then ran the car up to about 20mph, then turned it off and left it drift till it almost stopped, then restarted the engine. I did that once, did 25 mpg in a loaded 3/4 ton pickup with a 350 ci engine (normally it did about 10 mpg). Due to such practice, Congress passed a law that the only MPG that can by cited by Makers of cars is the one done by the EPA. who did such studies for pollution control equipment so it was no big cost to them to add mpg to their tests. |

4. Good jobs for hard working Americans.
|
At every stop Mitt Romney calls for 12 million jobs with "rising pay". But once that "rising pay" approaches union scale, Romney and that heartless band of corporate predators we call republicans scream: "Whoa now, that's too much!". They then continue on that we need "reeled in", while overacting the frantic fight of a deep water fisherman.

Quite frankly, you'd never even know there was a presidential election here since in my area, I've seen very few signs for either of the candidates compared to prior elections.

I'm in Traverse City, among many a blood red county (including my own) and our local party has distributed thousands of lawnsigns to individuals in the county as well as supplying at least seven counties in the surrounding area. Obama signs everywhere! Bumper stickers too!
Hard to believe there is a redder area (besides Grand Rapids, of course). Julie |

When Bush was running, there was one street in neighboring Shelby Township that every single house on one side had a Bush yard sign. Used to make me want to egg all the houses
A good friend of mine has an Obama sign from the last election but she said she didn't even put it out this time because last time she got her house egged! |
