John McCain Lashes Out At Colin Powell After Obama Endorsement
Source: TPM
John McCain bitterly denounced former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Thursday for supporting President Obama for a second straight election. “General Powell, you disappoint us and you have harmed your legacy even further by defending what is clearly the most feckless foreign policy in my lifetime,” McCain told Brian Kilmeade on his radio program. In 2008, Powell’s late backing of Obama over McCain was one of the most widely-covered endorsements of the campaign. Once again, Powell weighed in towards the end of the race this week, telling CBS News that he stands by the president based on his first term performance on the economy and foreign policy alike. According to Powell, he witnessed “the president get us out of one war, start to get us out of a second war and did not get us into any new wars. And finally I think that the actions he has taken with respect to protecting us from terrorism have been very very solid. And so, I think we ought to keep on the track that we are on.” -snip- Read more: http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/10/john-mccain-lashes-out-at-colin-powell-after-obama-endorsement.php

As I stated on the talking Points Memo site......
Mr. McCain, didn't Colin Powell harm his legacy, by sitting at the United Nations and basically lying to the group by saying Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? Didn't he hurt his legacy by allowing the Bush administration to continue to invade Iraq when they knew they were wrong? And Sir aren't you destroying your reputation by becoming a shill for every Fox news analyst that needs a voice against America and the President? |

Let's see about Obama's foreign policy.... - Troops home from Iraq - check - Timeline for leaving Afghanistan in place - check - OBL dead - check - AQ leadership dead or on the run - check - Attempts to blow up civilian aircraft thwarted - check - World opinion of U.S. significantly improved - check - Tunisia, Libya and Egypt - dictators gone and transition underway - check* - Syria - regime likely on its way out - check* - Somali pirates dead and counter-measures proving promising - check - No successful foreign terrorist attacks on the homeland - check (but plenty of gun-crazed domestic terrorist attacks) *Not perfect, far from being completed but at least we can say the citizens of these countries have a fighting chance to chart their own course There have been misses and potential failures as well. Like3 Bush and Romney he is nothing more than a hopelessly underachieving privileged brat that has never has grown up. His appointment to the Naval Academy was not on merit but solely because his father and grandfather were admirals. He would have been kicked out if his father had not interceded and graduated at the bottom of the class. He was a lousy pilot. Left his wife when he discovered she was crippled and hooked up a millionaire drug addict that could buy him a seat in congress and a modicum of respectability. He always was little jerk who his preschool classmates referred to as McNasty. Sure he picked Palin, she is as brain dead as he is.

McCain let out the stream of sharp epithets, both middle fingers raised and extended, barking in his wife's face. He was angry; she had interrupted him. Cindy burst into tears, but, really, she should have been used to it by now. I hope it is not a violation of copyright to post such a small excerpt from this book, but if an appropriate party asks me to, I will gladly take it down. I think this shows some insight into McCain's legendary temper. Glad he didn't get his finger on the proverbial button. |

73. WTF "legacy" is he talking about?
|
A legacy of war?
A legacy of what amounts to a secret police force? A legacy of freely sending American youth to die on foreign soil for oil interests? A legacy of domestic policies that got us into a recession? A legacy of alienating us from the rest of the world? Just what fucking legacy is McCain talking about here that Powell should be supporting? |

History may show that one of President Obama's great achievements is that he has pushed the Republican Party out from behind its tattered curtain and revealed to the country exactly what it has become - the home for petty, divisive, power hungry, mean-spirited political hacks.
Far right wingers have always been all of the above, but were held in check by Republicans like Nelson Rockefeller, who today would be booted from the party of Lincoln. Hacks who have pretended to be moderate voices of reason, like McCain, are the empty suits whose true character has been revealed by the President. The fruits of this will not show up immediately, but the next generation of voters will want nothing to do with the party of hate and spite. |
