Mourdock: Rape Pregnancies ‘Something That God Intended to Happen’
Source: tpm
At the final debate in the Indiana Senate race, held Tuesday night, Republican nominee Richard Mourdock explained his opposition to abortion in the cases of rape or incest. In the course of the explanation Mourdock suggested that rape should not be an exception to a ban on abortion, since rape pregnancies are themselves the will of God. "You know, this is that issue for that every candidates for federal, or even state office, faces. And I, too, certainly stand for life," said Mourdock, after both Democrat Joe Donnelly and Libertarian Andrew Horning had identified as pro-life. "I know there are some who disagree, and I respect their point of view. But I believe that life begins at conception. The only exception I have, to have an abortion, is in that case of the life of the mother." Mourdock then seemed to choke back tears, and continued: "I've just struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from god. And even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen." Video will be posted shortly. 85. I wouldn't say that IT is a bad thing, I would say that the persons and the people that he
|
has been hanging around that reinforced this kind of belief is a bad thing and are bad people.
I liken them to snake handlers and the ignoramus in Florida who wanted to burn the Qur'an. It's a form of ignorance that is self perpetuating and again, not of the original message. It took their perverted view to come to the conclusions that you are seeing today. Do a lot of organized religions have issues? Absolutely. Does that mean that the message itself is bad? No. What I have noticed about most denominations is that people will gravitate to what they feel most comfortable with. What will keep them in their comfort zone. Some people like to feel very guilty about things, thus they choose one denomination. Other people like to have a drink or two and will choose another denomination. The individual who was saying that rape pregnancy is Gods plan is part of a mind set that enjoys control. Be it control over his/her family, members of their congregation, or parts of society as a whole. At some point in their lives they took a right when they should have taken a left and compartmentalized their minds to believe this way. I seriously doubt that they themselves would enjoy the edicts that they pass down to be enacted upon them. |

|
Then came the Era of Revelation, and it was revealed that the priests had sex with young Catholic boys and girls. And sometimes the teenaged girls got pregnant.
And surprise surprise. When a priest got a teenaged girl pregnant, he often arranged for the abortion. He didn't want to lose his job or his reputation. I am convinced that if men could get pregnant, abortion would soon be a patriotic and spiritual rite of passage! |

It looks like this story is spreading like wild fire...The Huffington Post, Washington Post and Politico have picked the story up...I just hope it makes the MSM (CNN and MSNBC) and eventually it filters to our local media outlets here in Indiana (ideally the Indianapolis Star). I know many Republican moderates who will NOT Mourdock and that was before this comment. This should really help Donnelly out over the next two weeks if the story gets legs...I'll be making some phone bank this weekend for sure! Keep Indiana Blue!

But the teahadists tarred Lugar (of all people) as a RINO, "Obama's favorite Republican senator," etc.
One great irony is that Mourdock has come out in favor of repealing the amendment granting voters the power to elect senators directly. The irony is that there's no way in hell the state Republican party would ever have made Mourdock their man in the Senate - they'd have just sent Lugar back. |

Mitt Romney Cuts Ad For Richard Mourdock, Calls Him '51st Vote' To Repeal Obamacare (VIDEO) INDIANAPOLIS — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is plugging Richard Mourdock for Indiana's open seat in the fight for control of the Senate. In a new ad airing this week, Romney accuses Democratic candidate Joe Donnelly of voting too often with Democratic leaders in Washington. He also calls Mourdock the "51st vote" to repeal the federal health care law. The spot comes as Mourdock struggles to win the support of moderate Republicans and independent voters in Indiana. Mourdock has underperformed Romney in Indiana by roughly 12 points in most polls taken since he defeated Sen. Richard Lugar in May. -snip- Full article here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/23/mitt-romney-richard-mourdock-ad_n_2005188.html |

44. An example of a despicable result of a teleological worldview.
|
Teleology assumes that there is a static state of existence which all variables in existence are moving towards. But all evidence we have shows that there is only one actual existence. The concept "future" is an abstraction from memories of the existence, using our developed models of cause and effect to conceptualize a state after further change. And "past" refers to memories of the existence in previous states.
Brains and calculating structures are the only things ever doing any "predicting", abstracting from observations/information from the existence. Contrived trust in an omniscient deity leaves room for justifying anything they want. With a simple thought stopping meme like "God works in mysterious ways." |

47. Lugar is out of the picture
|
Lugar probably could have won as a third-party candidate, but I believe there's a rule in Indiana specifically prohibiting a losing primary candidate from being on the ballot in the general election. Even before this gaffe, a lot of Lugar Republicans were planning to sit this out or vote for Donnelly. Lugar himself has chosen not to campaign for Mourdock (I believe he also refused to congratulate him on his primary victory) but has also been very careful not to advocate against him. About a week ago the Indy newspaper tried to get Lugar to say anything about Mourdock, but he refused to bite. The best they could get was relating a story of a lifelong Republican telling Lugar he planned to vote for a Democrat for the first time ever, and Lugar said simply, "I understand."

51. Wow. Just... wow. These idiots just have to try to one-up each other with the stupid, don't they?
|
First, Akin with the "legitimate rape".
Then, Joe Walsh with the "abortion no longer necessary to protect the life of the mother because of medical advances." Now, Mourdock, with the "if a woman was raped, then it was God's plan." Way to win the female vote. |

These philosophical and theological "life" controversies are beside the point. The point is, no establishment of religion.

74. Apology Tour in order!
|
Sounds like Romney needs to shift gears and conduct an apology tour in order to save his party from itself! Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Florida and others would be on the itinerary. It would be refreshing indeed to witness "Moderate Mitt" disavowing the likes of Akin, Mourdock, Bachmann, Walsh, West and King. However I suspect wingnuttery will proceed unbated through the campaign, as Romney does not want to offend his shaky right wing base by taking these lunatics to task. The fallout from this for the GOP is that Democrats are more able to position themselves as being a more mainstream alternative to voters. And, as in 2010, any GOP hopes of regainig the Senate will be pulverized as a result of their own undoing.

86. Beware of those who think they know god's intentions!
|
I watched a documentary on the nuking of Japan.
It started by pointing out the fire-bombing of civilian areas that we were already doing on a massive scale. One interviewee (a pilot) said that dropping fire on civilians bothered his conscience. So he went to his priest and asked whether doing something like that was really okay. The priest told him, "God let you do it so he must have approved." We'd all do better to figure out what's fair and decent than to try to figure out what "god wants". |

Last edited Wed Oct 24, 2012, 10:13 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2) And there was rape.
And all the criminals rejoiced and made a joyful noise, saying 'Yea, the Lord God hath bestowed upon US his blessing to sexually attack women... just because." And the women wore sackcloth and ashes and were still accused of 'dressing to want it'. "This is bullshit", crieth they; "Is He not our God too? Are we also not His children that he'th professeth to Love?" "TOUGH TITTIES, BIATCHES" chuckled the Lord; "YOU SIGNED ON TO THIS PATRIARCHAL RELIGION AND YOU NEVER NOTICED *I AM* A 'HE'; AND WE OLD-TESTAMENTER, MANLY-MEN GUYS *REALLY* STICK TOGETHER? BESIDES, I'M RUNNING LOW ON BASTARDS TO SMITE FOR THE SINS OF THEIR FATHERS! TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE, EH?" pointing at His noggin. "NOW GET THEE IN THE KITCHEN AND DELIVERETH UNTO ME A SANDWICH ...CHOP CHOP" Thus endeth our reading of the Testament of Republicans, Book of Mourdock-Romney -Moroni, Verses 69-deep 86. ah-MEN! : Edit: Hoo-boy, I better add some : sarcasm: |

90. Stone Cold CRAZY as BEDBUGS
|
Republicans invented this issue and are really struggling with it.
Last month they told us women couldn't get pregnant from rape. They had some kind of "natural defenses", remember? Now they're telling us the resulting pregnancies are God's will. In Pennsylvania so much so that the state will only grant additional welfare support for the child if it resulted from rape, and you can prove it. What a lot of hooey! HOW and WHY do they make this stuff up? Do they really sit around all day and think of these scenarios? Who in their right mind sits around and thinks about rape all day? And how God views it, and what the state should do about it? INSANE. These people are stone cold crazy!!!! |
