As other polls show tight race, Gallup stands apart

Source: Reuters

When Obama opened up a wide lead in polls last month, Republicans accused researchers of interviewing too many Democrats. Those complaints evaporated when Romney surged ahead after his strong October 3 debate performance.

Now, the Obama campaign is questioning the validity of Gallup's methods after it released a poll earlier this week that showed Romney leading among likely voters in the handful of battleground states that will decide the election.

Obama pollster Joel Benenson called the Gallup survey an "extreme outlier" and said its formula to determine likely voters created a bias against Obama supporters. "Gallup's data is once again far out of line with other public pollsters," he wrote in a memo on Monday.

Republican strategist Karl Rove pointed out on Thursday that no candidate who has ever polled more than 50 percent in the Gallup poll at this point in a presidential race has gone on to lose the election. As it happens, Gallup had Romney at 51 percent that day.

just wish the House was looking better... it's amazing that they're most likely holding on to it without much worry.

Week 1: he says that Gallup is full of it because they're "using a 2008 turnout model" which they weren't. This was followed by 'Kingpin' Sununu claiming that the 'Chicago thugs' had intimidated Gallup with a lawsuit, and forced them to fudge the numbers in favor of Obama.

Week 2: Rove flips his wicked little dry erase board over to the other side and cites Gallup showing Romney in the lead, and I think there was some other 51% number that he quoted and said was 'the highest in Gallup polling HISTORY.'

So, do you think Fox News viewers remember that Rove was saying Gallup was totally unreliable only the week before? I doubt it. When a dog vomits and then licks it up again, do you suppose he remembers that he's already eaten what he just barfed up, and didn't like the first time? Same principle.

This poll is ridiculous. I don't buy it for one second. Obama has this race won. It is lights out for the repukes. I am past the presidency, to me it is all about can we retake the House at this point.

According to the article: "Gallup's editor in chief, Frank Newport, said he didn't know why his results didn't line up with others."

Yes you do, Frank. You are hoping to create an atmosphere where people won't be shocked if Romney can steal the election by one-half percent. Unfortunately for you, this attempted coup d'é·tat will be too large and messy to go uncontested. Be careful what you ask for, traitor.

Rove got what he wanted...a poll that shows Rmoney wins....so if it is stolen then he can say the polls predicted it and how dare you doubt the election results you whiners...
And we all will be forced to say it was Obama's poor performance that was the fault because it can't be a conspiracy, ...conspiracy don't exist....
It always works.
