Poll shows Obama widens his Michigan lead after debate
Source: Detroit Free Press
President Barack Obama’s improved performance in Tuesday’s debate with Republican rival Mitt Romney appears to have boosted him to a wider lead among likely Michigan voters, a Detroit Free Press/WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) poll shows. When counting undecided voters leaning toward either candidate, Obama, the Democrat, held a 52%-46% edge on Romney in an automated poll of 800 likely Michigan voters on Wednesday, a day after the men met in New York for the second of three debates. Almost half — 46% — thought Obama won the most recent debate, compared to 35% who thought Romney won. Eleven percent called the debate a tie and 8% were undecided. A poll after the first debate showed voters overwhelmingly gave Romney the advantage. “I think the debate had a role” in Obama’s lead, said Bernie Porn, pollster for EPIC-MRA of Lansing, which conducted the survey for the Free Press and WXYZ-TV (Channel 7). “You look at people who watched the debate, they’re voting for Obama more than the state as a whole is. Only among people who didn’t watch the debate are they tied.” . . . Iacocca endorsed Romney today, but I don't think what an 88 year old multimillionaire thinks moves people anymore.

That is why Mitt is already hunkered down now practicing for the last debate.

3. Iacoca's endorsement means nothing
|
He's only got clout with those who are already voting for whoever has the (R) after their name. But of course, I know you know this FK.
Good to see our numbers only going up in MI. I know Stabenow is doing well against that woman hating Hoekstra. Also got a monster House race up here in the 1st district. One of the top 3 in the country, if you can believe it. For as little time that we're getting from the top tier, we're doing pretty well. It isn't as blue as some may think here, again, as you well know. Levin and Stabenow are the only statewide elected Dems--I'll be that's not widely known/noticed outside of our state. It's a nightmare really and we have to fight hard for every blue county we claim on election day. Hell we even fight hard for many that still end up red though barely. Hoping to flip a few of those this year, up here in the north. Julie |

18. Good numbers
|
Julie:
Good numbers, but keep in mind that a lot can happen between now and Election Day - Michiganders, we can't afford to be complacent! Debbie Stabenow is doing well, but against a knuckle-dragger like Hoekstra I would hope so! I like her and I like Carl Levin. Whenever I've made contact with either of them they've always been very helpful and timely. Unfortunately, Candice Miller (Michele Bachmann's buddy) is almost a shoo-in for re-election because of the way the damn 10th District is drawn. I'm still going to vote for Chuck Stadler and I hope he wins but I won't be surprised if he doesn't. There are too many Beck/Limbaugh disciples around here. |

You make an awfully good point. I think that's why we're yearning to see those big margins returning in the polls. If it's close, it's close enough to steal. And that's something you can take that to the bank. They won't hesitate, over there on the Dark Side, if they think there's half a chance.
Glad you're here. We need you. And your President needs you too. Now get to work. |

We saw after the first debate how fragile those supposedly insurmountable leads were, and how they damn near evaporated.

6. Given his RW rant in his book in 2010, this is no more a surprise than

it's a surprise that Bruce Springsteen is for Obama. Iacocca is in Clint Eastwood territory!
Here is a quote from the link I found looking to see his prior opinion on Obama: "Lee Iacocca Says: ‘Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening? Where the hell is our outrage with this so called president? We should be screaming bloody murder! We’ve got a gang of tax cheating clueless leftists trying to steer our ship of state right over a cliff, we’ve got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can’t even run a ridiculous cash-for-clunkers program without losing $26 billion of the taxpayers’ money, much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, ‘trust me the economy is getting better..’ Better? You’ve got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned, ‘Titanic’. I’ll give you a sound bite: ‘Throw all the Democrats out along with Obama!’ You might think I’m getting senile, that I’ve gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore.. The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs.. While we’re fiddling in Afghanistan, Iran is completing their nuclear bombs and missiles and nobody seems to know what to do. And the liberal press is waving ‘pom-poms’ instead of asking hard questions. That’s not the promise of the ‘America’ my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I’ve had enough. How about you? I’ll go a step further. You can’t call yourself a patriot if you’re not outraged. This is a fight I’m ready and willing to have. The Biggest ‘C’ is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C’s of leadership, with crisis being the first.) http://tclehner.wordpress.com/2010/05/20/lee-iacocca-on-obama-where-have-all-the-leaders-gone/ |

who is having difficulty with being irrelevant and wants to live in the past. You know how I feel about this? I'm officially a senior citizen myself and we had our day in the sun. There are several generations younger than I am and even more younger than this old coot and for good or for bad, they are in charge, not the 88-year olds.
Why doesn't he just ride off into the sunset already. I'm tired of all the angry old men. |
