Sidwell Friends, the Washington, D.C. school attended by President Obama's daughters, Malia and Sasha, was evacuated on Thursday following a "phoned in threat," the Washingtonian reports... UPDATE: Sidwell has given the all-clear signal, and students are returning to the campus, one parent tells the Washingtonian. LATE UPDATE: The threat was unrelated to the first daughters, according to the U.S. Secret Service, the Hill's Daniel Strauss reports. And we thought the president had enough threats every day!

Last edited Thu Oct 18, 2012, 06:34 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) ... sick is the word I would use. Deranged sociopath also would work. However its is likely that someone who wanted to do the school harm would not warn in advance.

23. Correct. This was for attention/publicity. The perp got it, unfortunately.
|
In the book The Gift of Fear, he specifically addresses phoned in bomb threats. They have to be taken seriously, of course, but the type of person who truly wants to do harm does not warn, they simply strike.

this via their tv and radio programs - Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck for starters
Free speech is protected, but when violent acts result from specific speech it starts getting trickier ... |

7. But of course Racism is not involved....
|
I'm sorry but I think the #1 complaint about our President is he's black...half black....whatever. The #2 complaint is he's liberal. I know pundits like to get all serious and say, "Oh no...it's his policies...blah blah blah" Yeah, people do this over policies. Like Janeane Garofalo said after the FIRST Teabagger rally: "Racism straight up." |

9. Oh hell. The insane ones are being triggered. Ideally the world should be stable enough to contain
|
the worst of the madness. What's going on now is in itself unstable, rageful, paranoid. So those who wouldn't dream of going that far now find it easy to trip over the edge.
We really need to pull together to condemn anything like this. I hope we have the sense to do it. |

The other Junior High in our district was never subject to bomb threats - but the demographics weren't much different. I suspect someone at my school either called them in or had a friend do so to get out of tests or something.

12. Some idiot is sitting on a broken-down sofa in his parents' basement laughing.
|
What he doesn't realize is that he is in HUGE trouble if he is identified, even if he never had any plans to actually carry out a threat. The threat alone is enough for some federal time.

First TAGG, (yes a grown man named TAGG) Romney wants to punch the President of the United States, then his Daughters school gets a threat! Is this the game the Repuppetcans want to play to win the Presidency?
Expect Mitt Romney to say that his family was threatened in 3, 2, 1. |

Some sicko who hates Obama did this, I would bet my mortgage payment on it!! The liberal media are tamping this down, so the mushy middle don't get dismayed at Republicans.

24. We all know what this is. I said after the first debate
|
we have no clue what our President is dealing with on a daily basis.
President Obama will be my president for the next four years regardless of what happens next month. His presidency is about so much more than politics as usual. The next person that tells me both parties are the same and it doesn't matter who you vote for is going to get more than they bargained for. |

school enough for evacuation and it was not directed at them?
At what then? A disgruntled student who got suspended? |
