Israel Official says Gaza militants getting anti-aircraft missiles from libyan war leftovers
Source: Washington Post
By Associated Press, Updated: Wednesday, October 17, 12:06 PM JERUSALEM — A top Israeli defense official says Gaza is being flooded with sophisticated weapons from Libya and that the anti-aircraft missile fired last week at an Israeli helicopter likely originated there. Yossi Kuperwasser, who directs the Ministry of Strategic Affairs, says “significant” numbers of weapons have been smuggled into the territory from Libya since the fall last year of dictator Moammar Gadhafi. The country is awash in weapons after the eight-month civil war and has weak central authority. How is US national security actually impacted by US covert involvement in regime changes in the region? That is the major policy issue nobody is now talking publicly about.
General Wesley Clark … said the aim of this plot to "destroy the governments in ... Iraq, ... Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran”] was this: “They wanted us to destabilize the Middle East, turn it upside down, make it under our control.” He then recounted a conversation he had had ten years earlier with Paul Wolfowitz — back in 1991 — in which the then-number-3-Pentagon-official, after criticizing Bush 41 for not toppling Saddam, told Clark: “But one thing we did learn is that we can use our military in the region – in the Middle East – and the Soviets won’t stop us. And we’ve got about 5 or 10 years to clean up those old Soviet regimes – Syria, Iran , Iraq – before the next great superpower comes on to challenge us.” Clark said he was shocked by Wolfowitz’s desires because, as Clark put it: “the purpose of the military is to start wars and change governments? It’s not to deter conflicts?” &feature=player_embedded#t=0s |

4. Which is precisely why Mitt's desire to arm the Syrian rebels is so dumb
|
And why even the Israelis are against the idea.
I really hopes this gets brought up at the next debate. |

Israel says? Bwahahahahaha! Have mercy! You can't trust Israel's word any further than you could throw the Wailing Wall.

7. True.

The sea blockade pretty much means any arms from Libya that reach Gaza has to be through the porous Gaza border.
Then again, the scare quotes are appropriate too. It would be hard to prove that it was an Islamist regime in Egypt as opposed to the usual Bedouin "of course what I do is okay, I'm the one doing it, aren't I?" attitude. |
