Nordstrom backs gay marriage in memo to employees
Source: Los Angeles Times
Luxury retailer Nordstrom Inc. has jumped into the controversial gay marriage debate by openly supporting the rights of gay and lesbians to marry. The Seattle retailer joins other prominent Washington corporations such as Starbucks Corp. and Amazon.com Inc. in favor of approving Referendum 74 to legalize same-sex marriage in the state. Company president Blake Nordstrom sent a companywide memo -- co-signed by brothers Erik and Pete, also executives at the retailer -- laying out the retailer's "philosophical approach" to business, which includes a workplace where "every employee is welcomed and respected." ... "We feel the next step in this journey is to now support freedom to marry, also called marriage equality," Nordstrom wrote in the memo. "We gave this thoughtful consideration and felt the time was right to come out in support of this civil rights issue. 11. Oh, yum--Frangos!
|
Hadn't thought about those in a long time. They used to help keep me very, very happy, many years ago when Nordie's was nearby my home. Wonder if I can order them online? Gotta check that out--and thanks for the reminder and memory! Oh, BTW, good for Nordstrom. Way to go!

retailers to support gay marriage.
I wonder, how many of their lines were developed by a gay man in the first place? |

9. I'm going to have show some support.

I would not normally buy something from Nordstrom's...too pricey for me and I'm not a hung up on labels....but I will show support for this progressive thinking retailer and purchase something. And I'll be sure to mention to the sales clerk, why I'm there.

10. This is more evidence that the issue of gay rights is already settled, for all intents and purposes.

When major corporation after major corporation makes it clear that they will not discriminate, the only ones left in the cold will be the hard-core, religious fanatics.
It's also a sign of the weakening influence of the Catholic Church. These are good times to be alive. |
