Report: Charity President Objects To Paul Ryan’s Soup Kitchen Photo OpLast edited Mon Oct 15, 2012, 05:43 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Source: Talking Points Memo
Brian J. Antal, the president of an Ohio charity for the homeless, is objecting to a photo op staged by the Romney campaign on Saturday that featured vice presidential running mate Paul Ryan washing pots and pans that had already appeared to be clean, Felicia Sonmez of the Washington Post reports: “We’re a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations,” Antal said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. “It’s strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.” He added: “The photo-op they did wasn’t even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.” ..... “Had they asked for permission, it wouldn’t have been granted. … But I certainly wouldn’t have let him wash clean pans and then take a picture,” Antal told the Post. 36. Why make a show of feeding 'takers/parasites?' Ayn Rand is spinning in her grave now...
|
He needs to be forced to define what part of the population is at the soup kitchen. Because he's already defined 30% of Americans to be nothing but 'takers' as Romney has defined 47% of Americans as irresponsible.
It's against Ryan's doctrine to stop them from starving, as they deserve per Rand. He is firmly on the side of 'job creators/producers.' He and Mitt are the epitome of Ayn Rand's 'Supermen.' About this publicity stunt, I'd ask him: Why would you encourage the 'takers' at the soup kitchen, instead of telling them to get jobs? |

They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.”
It's possible they thought lunch was to be served. Possible. But just showing up for a photo op was rude. Bully boys, classic definiton. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bullyboy |

|
Anyone can walk into one of those places. They aren't expecting anything. No doubt the person who let them in thought it was publicity for the soup kitchen and didn't even know who they were. The St. Vincent De Paul's stores in my area don't restrict anyone from coming in to look things over.
I'm guessing as I've never been to that place, is that one of the homeless was working in the back and they are often apolitical. But the Ryan brigade planned this out, figured it'd be a good campaign commercial for him. That they are a Catholic charity would make it more credible to low-info voters, who won't see this online. |

|
I think someone on the inside set this up.. the logistics of having to detail out a place by the SS before the arrival of their charge would have been obvious and no mention about that has been reported.
I think it was pre-arranged by someone who didn't know about the bylaws and now, hopefully, that volunteer with get a good thrashing for forcing a private apolitical organization into the middle of the most political, partisan fight of the year. Also, it seems to me that the president of this organization needs to stop leaving it unsaid what their organization can and cannot do with respects to candidates looking for unearned photo-ops. |

Mrs. Obama and Sasha served coffee to guests seated at tables, while Malia and Mrs. Robinson walked around with platters, offering to replenish barbecued chicken, potato salad, cornbread and assorted Danish. The President greeted folks by the kitchen and posed for photos, then got onto the lunch service line. "All right, let's go to work," President Obama said. "I'm ready!" Joined by volunteers, the President scooped macaroni and cheese and served barbecue chicken, and shook hands with those who came through the line, saying alternately to each one, "How are you, sir?" and "Good to see you." |

50. Charity president: Paul Ryan "did nothing" at soup kitchen photo-op (CBS)
|
By Brian Montopoli /
CBS News/ October 15, 2012, 6:11 PM The head of a charity in northeastern Ohio where Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan and his family were photographed cleaning dishes over the weekend said Monday that Ryan was not authorized to be on the premises and "did nothing" while there. Brian J. Antag, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society in Youngstown, told the Washington Post that the Romney campaign had not asked to make the Saturday visit to the soup kitchen. He said that he runs an apolitical faith-based organization which has bylaws barring it from hosting political candidates, and that the visit jeopardized donations from private individuals. "They showed up there and they did not have permission," he said. "They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors." Antag added that Ryan and his family "did nothing" while on the premises ... http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57532807/charity-president-paul-ryan-did-nothing-at-soup-kitchen-photo-op/ |
