Million Muppet March Planned to Defend 'Sesame Street' and PBSLast edited Sat Oct 13, 2012, 10:32 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Source: NBC News
Plans to save Big Bird, the fuzzy yellow character on U.S. public television's "Sesame Street," from possible extinction are taking shape in the form of a puppet-based protest next month dubbed the "Million Muppet March." The demonstration is planned for Nov. 3 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., three days before the general election. Before the presidential debate between Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney had concluded on Oct. 3, two men who had never met each floated the Million Muppet March idea on social media. They immediately united to defend public broadcasting. ... Michael Bellavia, 43, an animation executive from Los Angeles, and Chris Mecham, 46, a university student in Idaho, separately came up with the Million Muppet March idea in response. 40. Why sew?
|
Buy a yellow sweatsuit and attach a few feathers here and there with a bit of tape or sticky fabric glue. Get a yellow stocking cap and attach a few more feathers to it in the same manner, maybe a bit of yellow face paint. Carry a teddy bear or even make a sign about Big Bird or PBS-everyone will get the gist.

Aside from that I believe this kind of protest will have emotional, intrinsic value further highlighting Romney's disconnect from the masses.

49. What does my avatar have anything to do with this?
|
All I said was having muppets/puppets/whathaveya as a major part of the protest (which I agree that cutting public TV/radio funding is evil) diminishes credibility and the seriousness of the matter. Why? The puppets in particular will just steal the show and the message will big utterly ignored. Tourists who travel to DC will stumble on to them, look at the puppets and say "how cute!". The Puppeteer/protestor will be overcome with pride in his/her craftsmanship will have the real message, the reason he/she is there in the first place, will go out the other ear.
Lamens (sp) terms, PUPPETS/MUPPETS = DISTRACTION! |

50. The muppets/puppets have emotional power at least one generation if not two have grown up
|
watching Sesame Street from a very early age, this was pre-education for tens of millions of Americans many at a disadvantaged income level.
The muppets' image hold an emotional, intrinsic value tied to those days and Romney for all practical purposes is against governmental support of this public treasure. Either Romney doesn't see the value or he doesn't care, in either case he's disconnected and a muppet/puppet protest would highlight this realism gulf between him and the masses. I was only teasing about your avatar, |

|
Not a distraction-- an issue taken on by the image of the issue itself-- American style branding at its best. Certainly doesn't minimize or diminish credibility-- by the very act itself, it add credibility via brilliant marketing.
Although I realize you've already convinced yourself no one will take its seriously, and although you've already convinced yourself that people will do A and B at the expense of C (with zero supporting evidence) I imagine there will be a rather large contingent of people who do. |
