'Friday Night Lights' filmmaker Peter Berg rips Mitt Romney over 'Clear eyes' slogan

Source: Inside Movies

The author of the book Friday Night Lights is a vocal Mitt Romney fan, and at recent campaign appearances the Republican presidential candidate has been using the inspirational phrase from the TV adaptation: “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.”

But that expression isn’t in the book, and Peter Berg, who directed and co-wrote the screenplay for the 2004 movie, and went on to create the 2006-2011 TV series, has written a scathing letter to Romney, telling him to cut it out.
Governor Romney:

I created the TV show “Friday Night Lights” and came up with the phrase “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose.”
I was not thrilled when I saw that you have plagiarized this expression to support your campaign by using it on posters, your facebook page and as part of your stump speeches. Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series.

The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and “Friday Night Lights” is in the character of Buddy Garrity — who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan.

Your use of the expression falsely and inappropriately associates “Friday Night Lights” with the Romney/Ryan campaign. Mitt, we all wish you and your family all the best. We are grateful for your support of our beloved show, but we are not in any way affiliated with you or your campaign. Please come up with your own campaign slogan.

Sincerely,

Peter Berg.

1. "Friday Night Lights" was one of my favorite...

...TV shows ever. I could spit nails at the thought of Romney using anything from FNL in his campaign. Big shout out to Berg for not letting this stand.

5. Seriously can this campaign not come up with original stories/slogans?

Every time they come out with a theme song, a saying or whatever, the people who wrote them originally asks him to stop. hahahaha

9. Ryan's eyes certainly were not clear last night on my plasma with digital cable...

He looked like he just rolled and smoke a fattie. I wondered if anyone else noticed it. I didn't see it with Biden or anyone else, so he must be stingy with his stash. lol

10. I'm Surprised @ Bissinger

He was pretty vocal about being against the right/crazy teabaggers. I followed him on Twitter because of it. I thought he was progressive. Now he's pulled a Dennis Miller.

11. It says:

The author of the book Friday Night Lights is a vocal Mitt Romney fan, but he clearly isn't a FAN right? Color me confused

17. The author Buzz Bissinger is a whining little crybaby (a weird looking motherfucker also)

He bases his support of Romney on one debate performance.
One debate performance.
He is now whining that people are attacking him for his shallowness.
Buzz, there is no crying in the locker room...not even for parasitic fanboys like you.
