Romney vows to be 'a pro-life president' after newspaper interview

Source: NBC

Mitt Romney vowed he would govern as a "pro-life president" after telling an Iowa newspaper on Tuesday that he wouldn't seek legislation affecting access to abortion.

The Republican presidential nominee, speaking to reporters during a stop Wednesday afternoon in Ohio, said he would act immediately as president to eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood and reinstate the so-called "Mexico City Policy," which prohibits the use of federal funds for promoting of performing abortions abroad.

"I think I've said time and again. I'm a pro-life candidate. I'll be a pro-life president," Romney said. "The actions I'll take immediately are to remove funding for Planned Parenthood. It will not be part of my budget. And also I've indicated I'll reverse the Mexico City position of the president. I will reinstate the Mexico City policy."

Romney told the editorial board of the Des Moines Register that he has "no legislation with regards to abortion that Iím familiar with that would become part of my agenda."

The real headline ought to be that Mitt Romney is all over the freakin map in his positions. What is his secret agenda? Sadly, Romney's minute by minute flip flops and lies are now being praised as smart politics!

4. He definitely needs to get busy and grow a second head

That way, one head can say it's pro-life while the second head says it's pro-choice. That way it wouldn't be lying.

6. How could anyone vote for him

He was pro-choice when he ran in Massachusetts, pro-life to win the Republican nomination, and is now pro-choice again.

Guy has no convictions whatsoever.

11. "seriously", but not "severely"

Severely republican
Seriously pro-life

You need to use the Kolob-English translator to understand what the hell he's saying.

9. Any Ambitious Republican Politician Has To Be Anti-Abortion These Days

Any ambitious Republican politician who wants to move beyond some prosperous, secular country-club state representative's or state senator's district HAS to be anti-abortion if he or she wants to move on to bigger and better things, and he or she had better prepare to hop through the anti-abortion crowd's hoops on cue. The anti-abortion fanatics have not only made that point very clear in their polemics, they've done a very good job at enforcing that position in Republican primaries. Here in Texas, the last pro-choice Republican state senator got tanked this year by a Tea Party anti-abortion extremist.

This is very clear not only to us DU'ers and any politically-aware Democrat, it is also very clear to any politically active Republican. It's only the clueless and the lazy-@ss inattentive bozos who purport to write and edit the news who have failed to take note.

Mitt's ambitious. He's tailored his positions to the anti-abortion (and anti-contraceptive) crowd's ideological specifications. He'll be at least as anti-abortion as Dubya and probably more so.

12. President Obama Hasn't Pounded The Reproductive Freedom Issue Hard Enough

Last edited Fri Oct 12, 2012, 12:04 AM - Edit history (1)

One of the reasons I fear President Obama isn't doing as well in the polls lately is that he hasn't pounded the reproductive freedom issue hard enough lately. When I say reproductive freedom, I mean access to contraceptives and reproductive health care, not just abortion. Anyone who has paid attention to the Republicans the last couple of years has seen that the abortion issue has served as a smokescreen and cover for the Radical Right's REAL agenda: restricting access to birth control. The Radical Right wants to use the abortion issue to shut down not only Planned Parenthood, but ANY program that makes birth control accessible to the poor and disadvantaged.

President Obama hasn't pounded this point hard enough, IMO. In fact, I'm so annoyed by the Democrats' all-too-flaccid response that I gave to the Planned Parenthood Action Committee. THEY'LL at least talk about it, even if some national Democratic operative will mistakenly choose to play nice and not talk about b_rth c_ntr_l.

15. Just Say NO to Romney/Ryan

These two are not qualified to leaders of this Country with their views in 2012.

They get a no vote from me.
