'Sesame Street' knockoffs Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster protest Mitt Romney in swing state (Video)

Protesters dressed as Sesame Street characters awaited GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's arrival in Van Meter today.

Romney said in a presidential debate last week that despite his love for characters such as Sesame Street's Big Bird, federally-funded PBS would face budget cuts under his administration, if elected.

all the characters on sesame street are muppets

there is no difference between them , just the name of the show

hence why they used to cross over all the time.. kermit was on sesame street ALOT back in the day (dunno if thats still the case)

The Muppet Show was on from 1976-81.

Hence, The Muppet Show was a knock-off of Sesame Street.

On edit: You are correct that The Muppets (as a group of characters created by Jim Henson) predated Sesame Street. However, I believe it is incorrect to label Big Bird as a Sesame Street "knock-off."

Fozzy Bear would correctly be a Sesame Street knock-off.

The characters morphed a bit in that time. They appeared as "guests" on other variety shows. Kermit was there, originally as a lizard.
