Obama Mocks Mitt Romney: 'Thank Goodness Someone Is Finally Getting Tough On Big Bird'

Source: Business Insider

DENVER — President Barack Obama was back on message this morning, attacking his opponent Mitt Romney in a way he was not able to do during last night's debate.

"When he was asked what programs he would cut, the only thing he mentioned was public television," Obama said. "Thank goodness someone is getting tough on Big Bird."

Then, responding to someone in the audience, he laughed and said, "Elmo too."

It was a very different version of Obama than the one that appeared on stage here last night, when he struggled to compete against Romney's dominant performance.

Speaking to supporters at an outdoor rally in Denver this morning, Obama seemed content to dismiss last night's upset as a big fluke.

Let Mitt be Mitt -- at which he succeeded beautifully.

I think he intentionally gave Mitt the spotlight, where his policies (and personality) could receive full view of the public. Heck, the press was going to find any excuse to give him the victory anyway. I think he'll come out swinging in Round 2.

then he'll become overconfident, over-reach and go for a mile. I think that's what happened. Romney was almost giddy at some points last night.

who are Kryptonite to his opponent.

As a sidenote, I must take issue with the writer's assertion that he "struggled to compete". If he struggled at all, he struggled to restrain himself.

Obama got bin Laden. What irony that Vietnam era chickenhawk Mitt will be known for his hit on Big Bird.

And that means a lot of people who didn't watch the debate are going to have a negative reaction to Romney. This is also true of some who watched the debate and thought Romney won. People don't like to be fooled.

have lines scripted by professional writers & loaded onto teleprompters. When they go off the approved script, it shows up as a gaffe.

Good comic timing and all.

Now we've got to deploy that against spoiled boy M.R. and his minions.
