Refinery problems send California gas prices skyrocketing

Source: San Jose Mercury News

Problems at California refineries have slashed supplies across the state, cutting fuel production and raising wholesale prices -- the price stations pay for their gasoline -- by as much as 73 cents, to levels not seen since 2007.

And that almost certainly will boost prices at the pump again soon.

"California gasoline prices may surge in the next five days, perhaps to levels higher than February's $4.33-a-gallon average," said Patrick DeHaan, an analyst with Gasbuddy.com. "It is within the realm of possibility that average prices reach near $4.40 or even higher if the situation worsens."

Bloomberg News reported that Exxon Mobil's 150,000-barrel-a-day Torrance refinery lost power Monday and may suffer production problems for another week.

10. Yep, the timing is a little too convenient. After

paying in the $3.99 range not long ago, prices have suddenly skyrocketed. Paid $4.39 here in S. Cal. yesterday. Seems BigOil is rooting for Rmoney.

Having the news hit just before the debates start has such a Karl Rove ring to it too.

9. I knew something would screw up my vacation next week

I was looking forward to the prices dropping a bit and easing the pressure on my wallet.

These fuckers and their problems at refineries is all fabricated because they cut the number of refineries so when they have a problem at one, the prices skyrocket because supposedly, the demand can't be met by the other refineries.

Self created profit!

13. every time there is a problem at a refinery, anywhere, the oil companies take advantage of the...

opportunity to gouge the consumers. Fuck the oil companies, I think they create the problems so that they can raise prices.

Well I guess its just an example of the wonders of a free market economy.
Some prick in a white shirt, tie and smock is doing a little gambling today.
Think he cares about how this negatively effects families out here?

15. Between the soaring gas prices, the goons from DEA and DOJ,

Coming down on the Golden State's number one, voter-approved crop, And lack of support from the Geithner/Obama government, a lot of Californians are going to be holding their noses while they vote.

25. As Bartcop would say,

If a mistake produces positive results, expect that same "mistake" to be repeated over and over.

In this case, this "mistake" is a boon for oil companies. It raises their profits, while the higher prices reflect poorly on Obama. If you think this is the last time a refinery will have problems before November 6, I've got a bridge to sell ya.
