Putin gives Chavez 'El Ruso' the puppy
Source: AFP
Vladimir Putin has sent a Black Russian Terrier puppy to his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez, who joked the Russian strongman would receive a capybara, the world's largest rodent, in return. The three-month-old puppy was given to Chavez by Igor Sechin, one of Putin's most trusted lieutenants and chief executive of Rosneft, Russia's largest oil company. "I passed a message from Vladimir Vladimirovich -- it's a Black Russian Terrier. It's three months old," said Sechin during a visit to the energy-rich Latin American nation. "He liked it very much," Sechin said in quotes published by mass-circulation Komsomolskaya Pravda on Friday. Read more: http://www.france24.com/en/20120928-putin-gives-chavez-el-ruso-puppy

10. I imagine it's the latter.

However, I assume they both agree about not wanting the US to be the singular political and economic force in the hemisphere. When politics and economics become confused, we can wind up with strange bedfellows (just look at our "allies" in Latin America).

Cross bred originally, as are a lot of breeds, but now established as a breed in its own right.
Bred from : Airedale, the Giant Schnauzer, the Rottweiler, the Newfoundland, the Caucasian Ovtcharka and the now extinct Moscow Water Dog. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Russian_Terrier. Magnificent looking animal. I came close to getting an Hungarian Puli some years ago but settled for Chinchilla Persian cats instead. Puli :
Getta load of those dreads. |

12. Yes, Airedale was the first thing that came to mind seeing the pic. Good info on the Puli.

I would not like the upkeep on those dreadlocks.

Poor dog--hope they keep him in air conditioned comfort--that coat looks a bit thick for VZ.

15. The Spanish doctors had to fix the mess the Cuban doctors made on Castro...
|
Cuban doctors have a lot of practical experience, and know how to do a lot with very little, but near as I can tell, all they did with Hugo was dig that grapefruit-sized lump out, irradiate him, give him chemo and do it all over again when the thing grew back.
He's terminally ill. Hugo should have gone next door to Brazil--they are doing some very forward leaning cancer work. As it is, should he prevail on 7 Oct -- and he probably will -- he'll leave the country in chaos when he dies. |

But that would be a disappointment, huh? Better think positive.

19. He has no running mate in this election. No "sarcasm" there.
|
How can the VP "take over" when there IS NO VP??? He will have to choose one and he has not yet done so.

I don't think they're getting the full flavor of the nation's history, never mind the world's.
They don't know it, they'll be condemned to repeat it. |
