Michigan senators draft new EM law if voters approve repeal

Lansing — The leader of the Michigan Senate said he and fellow Republican colleagues are armed with a proposal to replace the state law that lets emergency managers take over local governments in the event voters strike it down in November.

The behind-the-scenes effort, which doesn't appear to involve Republican House leaders or GOP Gov. Rick Snyder, aims to keep a form of the contentious law on the books while acknowledging some of the critics' concerns, which include that it takes too much power from local leaders struggling with budget deficits.

Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville of Monroe told the Associated Press on Thursday the move is not an admission the current law is flawed, but the new draft takes those concerns into account. He said he couldn't provide details about the alternative bill because the draft is under legal review.

"If something happened like that bill was overturned, I think the Legislature would have to be ready to respond and to still deal with the emergency," Richardville said. "You can eliminate the financial manager from the emergency financial manager legislation, but you can't remove the emergency."

3. Republicans have zero respect for voters....

as evidenced by their attempts to suppress the vote despite no evidence of voter fraud and this attempt to slap the voters in the face. They tolerate voters as long as they flip the "R" switch in the voting booth and shut up.

5. I tell you one thing for sure if Romney wins there will be a riot. He and his buddies are cheating

and if you watching the news tonite showing Rupublicans in swing states are registering dead people. They have been caught and the Company has been fired. I don't know how they are going to clean this up. Riots might break out. I don't think dems are going to let people steal an election again.

11. Not that I'm hoping for riots, BUT.........

I certainly HOPE that Dems won't let another election get stolen without at least raising a LOT of high profile hell about it.

It's like the Dem answer to election fraud is SOLELY GOTV. Eventually that won't work anymore because they'll steal it no matter WHAT the scale of the vote is.

4. So if voters vote to get rid of the law

the GOP will just ram it right through the legislature again and Synder will sign it back into law? So much for democracy in Michigan.

6. Thom Hartman said they would sell public parks and marinas to corporations...

...to pay off municipal bondholders to "get cities out of debt".
IOW, "privitization"
Either Thom said it or his guest said it a week ago.
I heard it during my commute.
Damn them

8. See this thread. Michigan is the first state under the Koch brothers selling off America scheme:

There's Been a Dictatorial Coup -- Koch Bros. Have a Bunch of Czars Running Cities Across Michigan

jbnow posted this reply:

Koch brothers are also fighting Snyder right now in support of a really rich guy bridge owner.

Per Forbes (below) This billionaire, Moroun gets $100 million annual revenue from tolls on only bridge between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit. It is old and there are bottlenecks and something has to be done for the increased trade and truck traffic involved.

Snyder wants to build one with matching funds from feds.

Canada doesn't like Moroun at all and won't cooperate with his attempt to build and profit from 2nd bridge. In fact Canada is offering to put up our 500 million worth and be paid back via tolls until paid in full and happily that also can count to qualify us for matching funds.

Anyway here is where Koch and friends come in
Until now, he has managed to fend off the threat of competition with a barrage of lawsuits, TV ads and political contributions to Michigan legislators and key members of Congress. He’s spent at least $5 million on political-style attack ads and mailings crafted by advisers that include Fox TV commentator Dick Morris and Americans for Prosperity, the free-market advocacy group founded by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch. He’s bought political influence as well, through family contributions of at least $776,000 to lawmakers since 2009. Most notable was a $100,000 contribution his son, Matthew, gave to the Michigan Republican Party last fall, one month before the bridge proposal died in a committee of the GOP-controlled state Senate.

Lately there have been all these tea party type ads against the state building the needed bridge... That it's a lie that it won't cost us anything, big Michigan debt clock, you can't trust the government, just the people and then for another group 'Did you hear they will import steel and workers'

Just like the tea party was in part funded and set up by money men... but struck the cord of populism in angry people.

Now Moroun, famous for protecting his own interests, has suddenly gone populist. He’s bankrolling a petition drive to amend the Michigan Constitution so that any new bridge or tunnel to Canada would require a statewide vote. On Thursday, a group called The People Should Decide said it had collected more than enough signatures to get the referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot. “This question will be put on the ballot as to who will decide the border issue in Michigan: A bureaucrat or the people,” said the group’s director, Mickey Blashfield, who is also head of government relations for Moroun’s bridge company.

I have not see many ads in favor of building the bridge or explaining the need or funding. That perplexed me but article states Snyder thinks the law says he does not need (bribed) legislature or (duped) public to give ok, he thinks law says he can do it.

But it is on the ballot... can he ignore a constitutional amendment? (The republicans do in congress here but that is another story)

So... the rich bully is being bullied by a gang of billionaire bullies

The Billionaire Vs. The Nerd: Who Gets To Control International Trade With Canada?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/joannmuller/2012/06/22/the-billionaire-vs-the-nerd-who-gets-to-control-international-trade-with-canada/

This is what is happening now. Following the money, we see what is going on. AND, it will spread in every one of those states, from Canada to Texas in a straight line, they are all red. I see it as mostly the victory of the religious right, over 30 years in the making, turning America into fiefdoms through the tax code and lobbying to make them unstoppable. Americans are not resisting this at all, most have been brainwashed.
