Romney Blames Obama for His Campaign Challenges
Source: NY Times
DENVER — Mitt Romney, who has been criticized by members of his party in recent weeks for not campaigning aggressively enough and who trails President Obama in polls in most swing states, placed the blame for his campaign’s struggles squarely on the president himself Sunday afternoon. Speaking to reporters as his private charter plane flew from Los Angeles to Denver, Mr. Romney blamed his relatively languid campaign schedule — five public events in the past seven days, compared with 11 fund-raisers — on the president’s decision to opt out of the federal campaign finance system four years ago, and criticized Mr. Obama for, he said, “trying to fool people into thinking that I think things I don’t.” Asked why he was behind in the polls in most swing states, Mr. Romney accused the Obama campaign of distorting his record. “I think that the president’s campaign has focused its advertising in many cases on very inaccurate portrayals of my positions,” he said. “They’ve been very aggressive in their attacks both on a personal basis and on a policy basis. I think as time goes on, people will realize that those attacks are not accurate and we’ll be able to have a choice which is based upon each other’s accurate views for the future of country.” -snip- Read more: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/23/romney-blames-obama-for-his-campaign-challenges/ This article is a must-read. Romney actually accused the Obama campaign of distorting his position on abortion and on the auto industry bailout, and according to the article, he was calling for fact-checkers, AFTER his campaign had criticized them earlier. And you should read the article for the full response from Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith, who said of Romney that "it certainly takes a lot of chutzpah for him — after his campaign bragged that it wouldn’t be dictated by fact checkers — to shed crocodile tears over a legitimate discussion of his record and policies." She also said that "If he’s so offended by his own positions, maybe he shouldn’t have taken them in the first place."

The time to counter this trend was BEFORE now, if not way before now - before the hard truths about Romney have been set in stone in the minds of the still wavering voters. 94. At least that criticism has some connection to doing poorly in the polls . . .
|
If indeed one's record were being besmirched, and people didn't like you for things you supposedly thought rather than for things you actually thought, that complain would have a legitimate relation to what you were upset about. (again, hypothetically)
But WTF does he mean when he says that his languid campaign schedule (lack of events) is caused by Obama's decision about whether or not to take federal money 4 YEARS AGO????? WTF does a 4 year old decision by somebody else about how to fund their campaign in 2008 have to do with ROMNEY's current campaign strategy of not having very many events???? That doesn't even have a hypothetical connection to anything, does it? Please!?! If anyone can explain, I'm here all week . . . LOL. |

89. Obama opted out in 2008 to avoid the dilemma that Kerry faced in 2004
|
Last edited Mon Sep 24, 2012, 01:43 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) 2004 was the first campaign affected by McCain/Feingold. Kerry, long time proponent of even stricter campaign finance laws did not opt out - so he had the sme amount of money for a 13 week general election campaign that Bush had for 8 weeks.
This meant he could not throw big dollars in ads at the swiftboat liars without leaving the campaign running on fumes at the end. It was Kerry who was put out by Obama to defend Obama's decision not to accept public money when infinite money could be thrown against him. As to Obama "lying about" Romney - my question is "on what?" The clearest lie in either campaign is Romney's on welfare. It seems that Romney regrets losing the uneven playing field of 2004. Not to mention what makes this bogus is Romney could give his campaign a billion dollars if he chose to as his own contribution is not limited. |
