Greeting Romney at airport was violation Boy Scout policy

Source: KSL.com

SALT LAKE CITY — When Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stepped off the plane in Salt Lake City Tuesday for his fundraising visit, he was greeted by a troop of Boy Scouts.

It was an exciting moment for the boys, one they'll remember for years. But turns out, such a greeting is against the Boy Scouts of America policy to participate in political events.

-snip-

Two weeks ago, vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan had a similar welcome in Provo. The boys were overjoyed to meet candidates of such stature.

-snip-

Troop leaders at both events told KSL News the Romney campaign contacted them and asked for Boy Scouts to be on hand. BSA policy, however, prohibits Scouts from participating in political activities.

so he has to get them to show up at campaign's request.

Now the BSA of U.S.A. has to immedately issue a memo reminding them that the BSA of USA (while anti-gay), must follow the principles that is in the Cub Scout manual, and realize that Rmoney is an opportunist jerk and should be peed on upon sight.

why isn't there any Mormon fanfare and announcement through local TV media and national media that Rmoney is finally home and back to the Temple.

And watch him discuss about trying to sneak into Missouri for the Garden of Eden.

He wasn't old enough to vote, but looked to be 16 or so. I don't like picking on kids, so, I won't. But his reasoning for voting Romney were cringe worthy. He basically said, "I like Romney. I can't vote. But he seems ... good and I'm a Republican."

Persuasive.

Very religiously influenced here. Well, that was just one reason. I don't think my mom likes the Scouts much at all.

Growing up as a non-Mormon in Utah was ... an experience. I have so many stories that would make anyone wince.

the leadership of the mormon church has always had a "the ends justifies the means" mentality.

IMHO, Romney's ENTIRE campaign is nothing but a campaign for the mormon church to create more converts.

So the Romney campaign had to resort to having Boy Scouts to greet him? There are fund raisers for Boy Scouts sponsored by the LDS Church, so what does that tell you?

I think it's shameful to drag young boys (but no gays) to be interviewed to give political statements such as "I'd vote for him if I could".

In UT it's like sending out the LDS army to rally up. Whatever their bishop says to do, they do (virtually mindlessly). I'm guessing they knew quite clearly that it was against BSA policy before dragging these young boys to the airport. It's one of those "do it anyway and apologize later" moments.

18. Even Mitt Romney Thinks Boy Scouts Shouldn’t Be So Anti-LGBT
Thu Sep 20, 2012, 07:30 AM
Sep 2012

Mitt Romney is no supporter of LGBT equality. Throughout his 2008 and 2012 campaigns, he has rarely passed up an opportunity to boast about his opposition to marriage equality. In February, he proudly proclaimed that by resurrecting an obscure 1913 law intended to limit interracial marriage, he stopped same-same couples from other states from getting married in Massachusetts, saying he “prevented Massachusetts from becoming the Las Vegas of gay marriage.” And while he once promised to co-sponsor the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, he now believes that states should be free to allow employment discrimination.

But the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA)policy of prohibiting LGBT Scouts and leaders is apparently too anti-LGBT for even an anti-LGBT activist like Romney. This weekend, his campaign announced that Romney stands by a 1994 comment he made that the BSA should stop discriminating.

The Associated Press reported Saturday:

Back in 1994, during a political debate in Massachusetts, Romney said this: “I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”

A Romney spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, said in an e-mail that this remains Romney’s position today.

My understanding is Boy Scouts is the LDS male youth organization. The LDS church threatened to withdraw if Scouts changes policy on Gays. I am sure the Utah Scouts were bought and paid for.

As to Cubs every one does that through a local service organization no single church has a charter in our community (as far asI know). That is usually done at school on Cub and Girl Scout night.
