Mann, U.Va. triumph again in legal battle

Prince William Circuit Court rules professor’s proprietary emails, documents exempt from state FOIA By Lizzy Turner | Sep 19 Michael Mann, former University environmental science professor, will not have to give the American Tradition Institute access to his email correspondence and various other documents pertaining to his controversial climate change theory, the Prince William Circuit Court ruled this week. Should the ruling stand, it could set a precedent that researchers in public institutions do not have to disclose to the public proprietary documents relating to their research. The institute, a conservative think tank focusing on environmental issues and policies, argued that Mann’s emails should be released because the University receives public funds. Mann’s global climate change research came under scrutiny in April 2010 when Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, a University alumnus, requested to review the professor’s grant applications and emails, claiming Mann may have committed academic fraud. 1. Nice to see our asshole AG lose one for once!

Cuccinelli is a cancer on our state and I despair for the country when he starts setting his ambitions higher. The man is a monster.

2. The hypocrisy of "conservatives" mis-using FOIA to attack their enemies is kind of stunning.

Not to say a bit of a stretch. If this is to hold, I think the "American Tradition Institute" should release all its emails too, since they are clearly involved with all kinds of important stuff that we would all like to know about too.

3. Fraud

THe only fraud here is that Ken Cuccinelli is the Attorney General of Virginia. This man never practiced law a day in his life, yet he has used the AG position to get laws changed that conform with his dominionist views. The scary thing is that the Tea Party has gotten hold of the Virginia Republican Party and he is their boy. Even Governor Ultrasound McDonnell has distanced himself from Cuccenelli's run for Governor by supporting Lt Gov Bolling. The GOP Gubernatorial Primary in Virginia is going to be a blood sport and if the Democrats can get a good candidate this time we should retake the mansion in 2015.
