Marine says sergeant ordered bloodshed in Haditha

A Camp Pendleton Marine says his commanding officer ordered bloodshed before his squad killed 24 Iraqis, including women and children, in 2005.
According to U-T San Diego ( http://bit.ly/zztsBi), Sgt. Sanick Dela Cruz testified Wednesday that Sgt. Frank Wuterich told his squad that if they were attacked again, they should kill everyone in the vicinity.
Wuterich's comment allegedly came in the wake of the death of a Marine in Camp Pendleton's 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment.
The killings in Haditha on Nov. 19, 2005, came after the squad was attacked by a roadside bomb while running a supply convoy.

(553 posts)It only takes one honest man to show the "nobility" of our troops. War is hell. And we obligingly provide our sons and daughters to serve as the demons. And then we wonder why so many go nuts when they return? Haditha IS a war crime. American soldiers are still committing war crimes and we still welcome them back as heroes and we laud our so-called leaders for starting wars of aggression. The greatness of the nation has long been soiled and degraded by these men who lead. Haditha rests on their shoulders; these soldiers were just trying to survive. Ironically, they will bear the punishment for the war crimes made possible by the decisions others made.
Is it time to prosecute Bush, et al. yet?

(82,849 posts)But now it's just another political show, meant to score points against your opponents so they can be labeled as "soft" on terrorism, or something else. And when the chickens come home to roost, nobody remembers who was so gung-ho about going to war, and it isn't really anyone's fault, and the atrocities (which - darn the luck! - seem to happen every time) are the actions of a few bad apples, and support the troops, and, and, and.
