Former Florida Power & Light nuclear plant employee files whistleblower lawsuit
Source: Palm Beach Post
A former Florida Power & Light Co. St. Lucie nuclear plant employee has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the company alleging retaliation against him following a Nov. 21, 2009 incident at the plant. Mark W. Hicks, 53, of Port St. Lucie, alleges in the complaint that he was terminated from his job as operations manager for refusing to start up the plant’s Unit 2 nuclear reactor after recognizing it had a leaky valve. <snip> After Hicks made the decision, he reported to FPL nuclear division executive vice president Manoochehr Nazar, who then “shockingly and recklessly insisted that Hicks start up the reactor,” the lawsuit says. <snip> Following the incident, the lawsuit alleges that Hicks’ supervisors began to target him and that his performance ratings were lowered. He that he was eventually forced out and terminated on June 25 of this year. <snip> Read more: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/business/former-florida-power-light-c0-nuclear-plant-employ/nSFBX/

4. The NRC Should Hire Him
|
Last edited Thu Sep 20, 2012, 01:19 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) It is unconscionable that they should fire someone for standing up for safety at a nuclear power plant so soon after Fukushima!
Even if all they care about is money, surely they must have noticed the deleterious effect of the disaster on TEPCO's bottom line. The NRC should hire him. |

Florida Power light not concerned about the safety part of it just concerned about the public known what's going on at their plants, and trust me once you leave the job they're going to give you a bad reference they gonna make sure you don't work nowhere. All the plants are connected, they're going to do everything they can to stop you from coming to any nuclear plants simply you going to be black ball. If I can help with anything let me know 904-508-2190. Once you file your complain to the NRC they get the information they fine FPL plant and then you are left the EEOC/ OSHA and you have 90 days you must be financially okay because you hired a lawyer that's the best thing you could have done. I respect you as a plant technician thank you for looking out for the citizens of Florida, Power light just money hungry they don't care nothing about the public safety. If your plate mechanic or any kind of mechanic Raise a safety issue your going to be harassed intimidated or laid off are better more fire.
