Morning Joe On The Entire Muslim World: 'They Hate Us Because of Their ReligionLast edited Mon Sep 17, 2012, 03:02 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Source: Think Progresss
Joe Scarborough On The Entire Muslim World: ‘They Hate Us Because Of Their Religion’ By Judd Legum on Sep 17, 2012 at 8:58 am This morning on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough accused every single person in Muslim and Arab world of hating the United States. According to Scarborough, “if you scratch the surface, and if you gave every street vendor to prime minister in that region a chance to throw a rock at the U.S. embassy, they would.” Scarborough added: “You know why they hate us? They hate us because of their religion, they hate us because of their culture, and they hate us because of peer pressure.” He said that anyone who believes “we’re going to go over there and change them” is “naive.” Scarborugh’s Islamophobic diatribe encountered little resistance on the set of Morning Joe. His co-host Mika Brzezinski responded in apparent agreement, “look what is happening in Afghanistan 11 years later.” Read more: http://thinkprogress.org/media/2012/09/17/856741/joe-scarborough-on-the-entire-muslim-world-they-hate-us-because-of-their-religion/ So, I have lost all respect for this racist..every once in a while he says something ok, and sounds ok.. But this one. how fucken sad that a so called "intelligent" person could say this on national TV.."every" is all...all is all What a jerk...words cannot express my disgust.

George Bush used to say that "they hate(d) us for our freedom." So he took away our freedom, and that solved that. I guess then the RW had to come up with another reason for them to hate us. This was the best they could do while they overlook the obvious one, I guess.... |

And, by the way, there have been demonstrations at American embassies for many decades. There's an interesting article about this here: http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/09/the-history-of-muslim-anti-western-protests-is-older-than-obama-or-bush-drones-or-israel/262462/

That's like how we thought about our Native Americans in the 19th Century and just stole the land they lived on for maybe thousands of years in North America.
Many years ago I was in the Middle East and went shopping in Muslim owned stores and could not be treated better. In many stores I received a free coffee and the owners were very nice. Propaganda is very ugly no where it is spewed. Intolerance about others will always be trumped by cooperation and understanding. I am sure that a lot of this anti-Americanism is started in Muslim Schools at a very early age and what these students are receiving very huge amounts of distorted facts. We were forced fed this same type of stuff about the Japanese Americans right after Pearl Harbor. |

I've watched this show for years, and even defended it as being at least a semi-balanced forum. I've even been ridiculed for my support of Asshole Joe's clown show on web forums. But you're done, as far as I'm concerned. Joe's apparent 2016 election bid has overtaken the show.
I think you need BIGGER American flags flying in the background. Maybe a bald eagle should swoop in every now and then, and perch on Joe's shoulder. You have turned into Colbert...except Colbert knows he is parody. You are being serious. A serious joke. If Mika took her designer dress off and sat next to Joe naked for the whole show, I promise you...I would only watch it for a little while. Maybe up until you re-run everything at 8:00. Actually, you'd have less than a female Fox reporter since the FOX reporters actually express an opinion from time to time (wrongheaded as that opinion may be). I've defended the show from time to time as well but it appears that I usually caught it when Joe was having a lucid moment and Mika discovered she had a voicebox and a backbone. Today's show was pretty close to a Rubicon moment as to whether I decide to bother to watch it again before the election season is over. |

FUNDAMENTALIST ATTITUDES TOWARD OTHER MONOTHEISTIC FAITHS
“Jews and Muslims who don’t accept Jesus will burn in Hell.” – Johnny Hart, cartoonist and creator of the popular syndicated newspaper comic strip B.C. (and co-creator of the equally popular strip The Wizard of Id), on the unfortunate eternal fate of those non-Christian fellow monotheists who chose (or were simply born into) the wrong monotheism “Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I’m telling you, you’re not my brother and you’re not my sister.” – Robert Bentley, governor of Alabama, on his views regarding the second-class (or worse) status of all “unsaved” citizens of the state he governs “With all due respect to those dear people, my friend, God Almighty does not hear the prayer of a Jew. For how in the world can God hear the prayer of a man who says that Jesus Christ is not the true Messiah? It is blasphemy. It may be politically expedient, but no one can pray unless he prays through the name of Jesus Christ.” — Bailey Smith, a past president of the Southern Baptist Convention (the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S.), on how Jews literally don’t have a prayer “I do not believe that God answers the prayer of any unredeemed Gentile or Jew” – Jerry Falwell “Islam was founded by Muhammad, a demon-possessed pedophile….” — Jerry Vines, another past president of the Southern Baptist Convention (the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S.) and former pastor of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL (at the time, the third largest Southern Baptist church in the U.S.) “These people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it’s motivated by demonic power. It is Satanic and it’s time we recognize what we’re dealing with… by the way, Islam is not a religion of peace.” – Pat Robertson’s blanket condemnation of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.” – Ann Coulter on how to resolve tensions between Islam and the West, immediately post-9/11 |

29. Just business as usual this morning on Morning Joe
|
First, they don't all hate us, Joe. Oh, sure there are probably some who do but most are just like the rest of us on planet earth. We want a decent, safe place to live and raise our family, enough to eat and maybe a little measure of happiness. We don't sit around hating the rich or envying their good fortune. Some of us call out the ones who cheat and walk over the rest of us to get their goods, but for the most part we don't think about them. That applies to folks in the middle east, I'd be willing to bet. And Second: for the ones who do have a bone to pick with the USA, do ya think it might possibly have to do with our policies that have brought guns and war to their doorsteps? Do you think burying your dear ones way before their time due to ANOTHER country coming in to "help you" get freedom will in any way make them grateful to us? They might be justified in feeling just a tad peevish about all of our help. Husband does not usually watch MJ but was in the room this morning when this dialog was going on. He asked me, "What is Mika's job on this show?" I told him evidently it is to sigh, roll her eyes and every now and then go on a rant about high fructose corn syrup in our soft drinks. Or Fat Burgers. Oh, and this morning she was gushing over the "fashion segment" on the show. Obviously gave her chills...... This show, which claims to be serious, is truly a joke. Joe needs to just close down shop and get on with running in 2016. That ought to be real fun. And I mean that. |

I spent six weeks in the Kingdom of Jordan over the summer studying Arabic. Everyone there was super nice. The teachers at the school went out of their way to make sure they had a program for my beginner level. (That was a big deal. They were only set up for level 3 & 4 and my program did not bother telling them that they were sending a near-beginner.) Also, the towns people were very friendly, often asking in English where I was from and saying "welcome, welcome" when I said "America."
Suffice it to say, I did my best to be nice to them, which was not difficult considering how friendly and open they were. The Jordanians understood that Americans are not our government (even if we don't). Still, some were gratified when I said I did not vote for Bush and that I intended to vote for Obama again. Likewise, they seemed happy when I recognized the faces on their money and asked about specific aspects of their culture. And that is the point. America has not been nice to Arab countries, being the successors to British imperialists. We have supported tyrants and overthrown liberal governments in the name of fighting communism and promoting oil export. Apparently those governments and their clerical supporters used these facts to support a propaganda claiming that America wants to undermine their culture--especially Islam. So, when North Africans or Middle East Muslims see something offensive to Islam coming from America, they take it as proof that the conspiracy theory is right. To be clear, no movie can ever be justification for murderous violence. Some Muslims do hate the West because of their religion and they need to realize that the whole world does not revere Mohammed and has no duty to shut up about their lack of reverence. Having said that, it is important to remember our imperial past (and present) when speaking of Muslim anger. So, the idea that Muslims hate us is a plain lie. Second, to the degree they do or are angry, it is as much about imperialism as it is about Islam. |

This is a reflection on the whole "American Exceptionalism" thing.
People who are so blindly patriotic that they insists on unquestioning confirmation of our awesomeness are almost incapable of understanding why other people might not like us. It simply does not compute. Therefore, anyone not liking us must be flawed. They have to be defective since we are so awesome that it is inconceivable that we have done anything to be disliked. Meanwhile, anyone suggesting otherwise is part of the "blame America first" crowd. After decades of western supported dictators and wars, it boggles the mind that anyone could wonder why SOME of them hate us. |
