Gretchen Carlson Tries To Salvage Incredibly Awkward Interview With ‘Former Obama Supporter’

Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson had to contend with a truly awkward moment Monday morning as she attempted to get through an interview with Max Rice, a man described as a recent college grad and former Obama supporter who is now switching his vote to Romney.

Rice kicked things off by greeting Carlson, a former pageant queen, with a “Hello, Miss USA.” Carlson corrected him, letting Rice know that she had, in fact, been voted “Miss America.”

“Miss Universe in my book,” he responded. Aw?

As Carlson struggled to make it through the rest of the interview, asking Rice about switching his support from Obama to Romney, he revealed that he’d lost a basketball to a friend who is “a huge supporter of this show.”

Must see TeeVee. A delicious moment when FoxNews' propaganda machine breaks down. LOL!

6. He lost a basketball game bet?

Did FAUX not know this ahead of time? How stupid can MSM really be? And Poor Miss America was just taken at his responses. Too damn funny. Yet another reason why I don't watch these idiots at FAUX.

How better to discredit Fox than to imply that you only came on because you lost a bet!

Don't know the expression. Can you explain, please?

14. They should just hire actors

Give them a script to read:

"Yes, Gretchen, I supported hope and change, but I am very disappointed and am confident that Governor Romney will move this country in a new direction..."

Also clear that Gretchen wanted to make something of his moving back with his parents so maybe:

"I believed in Obama but now I can't find a job in this dreadful economy..."

Or whatever sound bite they were looking for.

25. I'm guessing he wasn't "vetted" all too carefully

That's why they should stick to in-house paid performers if they want to keep "message discipline" and all that.

28. Well, if Gretchen's thundercloud face in the next segment

was any indication, she won't be touching an interview for quite a spell!

In fact, the other two clowns on the set were trying to make light of the disaster, and she said very curtly: "Well, next time YOU two can do it..."

Just seems like a goofy college kid.

The whole losing a basketball game and therefore having to vote for Romney appears to be true.

All the more scandalous then, that Fox would put him on the air without vetting him, just to score an anti-Obama rant.

23. He does stand-up comedy at UT

He is only a sophomore there (not a recent college grad) and was too young to have voted for Obama in 2008.

The losing a basketball game and therefore having to vote for Romney bit appears to be true though.

Edit to add: Quite possibly true that he met Obama in third grade as he grew up in Illinois, near Chicago.
