Israeli Foreign Ministry officials say U.S. ignored Arab radicalization
Source: ha'aretz
The Obama administration, which since the beginning of the Arab Spring has aided, directly or indirectly, the forces that brought down the dictatorial regimes in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and Lybia, now finds itself in a position of helplessness. The attack on the consulate in Benghazi, in which the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, was killed, and the storming of the U.S. embassies in Tunis, Sanaa and Cairo, proved the great hostility to the United States and the unwillingness of these country's new leaders to challenge domestic public opinion. ................................................................... "The Americans were constantly trying to supply explanations and excuses for events in the post-revolution Arab states, and simply ignored the problems," one senior Israeli official said, adding, "In practice the administration's ability to affect events in the Arab world has decreased immensely." ................................................................... Senior Foreign Ministry officials said the latest riots at the U.S. embassy in Cairo, and the weak condemnation of President Mohammad Morsi, demonstrated that despite its massive military and economic aid to Egypt the United States had failed to achieve any real influence over the Muslim Brotherhood. "Only now, after what happened to their embassies, the Americans are beginning to understand the situation," the senior official concluded, "to hear the president of the United States declared that Egypt isn't an ally, but also isn't the enemy - that's a real earthquake," he said. Jonathan Lis adds: In related news, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has launched a new public relations offensive in the United States. He has recorded interviews that will be broadcast today on important Sunday-morning political shows on CNN and NBC, all in an effort to persuade the American public that setting "red lines" for Iran will cool Tehran's enthusiasm for its nuclear program and reduce the likelihood of a wider military confrontation. Netanyahu is expected to point to the violent demonstrations at U.S. embassies around the world and to say, "Think what would happen if these people had nuclear weapons." 1. We could always withdraw aid to Egypt and let them invade Israel
|
then see how happy that makes Likud. That is the reason Egypt is the second largest recipient of US aid, after all.

2. How about the radicalization of Israel?

Last edited Sun Sep 16, 2012, 01:24 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) IMHO, Likud is a nightmare for ME peace.
Translate "right to exist" as "jaweh gave us this land". I do not deny to former; but I do deny the latter. I get the feeling from their bellicosity that the current Israel does not split this difference. If true, that would be very worrisome to me. The thing is, Israel's actions indicate to me that they are making that equivalence. And so now Bibi seems intent to interject himself into US presidential politics. If so, no wonder President Obama didn't want to meet with him. |

3. They are meddling in our election
|
and that bothers me. I see no other way to interpret this statement. Likud wants Romney as President since he has already committed to war with Iran.

4. Its another huge disqualifier for Romney
|
Three years ago I had no idea Romney was as reckless and spineless as to offer to go to war with Iran as a presidential campaign promise to foreign powers. Only Congress has the power to declare war. If we, as Americans, elect Romney, we are electing a reckless tyrant who will send American men and women to die at the behest of hotheads like Netanyahu.

8. Drill down into this ....
|
This is not unusual behavior .... This is not the first time an embassy or consulate has been breached ....
Of course the Likud and Likudniks would couch this in terms to give the greatest benefit to the US right wing party .... The Arab Street has blown up before and will do so again ..... Obama did not cause the problem, but they will act as if he had .... |

9. Ironic, since the Libyan Jihadis are a major part of the west's regime change ops in Syria.
|
And, I doubt very much whether Israel has any problems with that. Or, would he suggest that the CIA starts taking out the Sunni foreign fighters we aid and coordinate?

10. Yap yap yap, it's like having a tiny little dog chewing on your ankle.

As usual, these bozos confuse effects with causes, and assume that the same old methods will work in every new circumstance.

11. US cannot put the genie back in the bottle. Change happens.
|
Israel sees the world as it was . That day is gone. All countries will have to learn how to live in a very different world that is going to see a lot more change before things settle down if ever.
